I'm in my second day of using my cpap. A couple of questions: I have red marks around my nose where the mask sits. How does one prevent the marks? And I can't tell if I'm having Veritigo or just dizziness during the day after using the cpap at night.
Re: new cpap user
What mask is that? They adjust in different ways. This is a problem many have had. It tends to be one that can be solved pretty easily if it doesn't progress to a break in the skin. That takes a while to heal. In the long run, noses toughen up.

Re: new cpap user
Your mask is either a size too small, or is too tight (if you get leaks when loosening it, it may be the wrong mask for you), or the marks appear, but don't last long and could be considered 'normal'. Any idea which it might be?
Re: new cpap user
problemchild - I am a total newbie ... had my machine for months, but have had so many issues, I stopped using it til last night.
Can't speak to the mask issue (gotta be persistent until you find one that fits you well, and one you can adjust properly) but one thing I DO have experience in is dizziness and vertigo.
Dizziness feels like disequilibrium, or lightheadedness, or a feeling like you are walking on sofa cushions, or even like you're about to pass out.
Vertigo is the perception that the room is spinning around you. It can be like sitting in the middle of a skating rink with skaters whirling around you, or like you are on a hamster wheel, with everything spinning over and under.
It's very important to know the difference, because this is one of the most challenging symptoms you can present to your doctor. There can be a million causes.
But in answer to your post, I quit my APAP for over a month due to severe dizziness. I have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, and my nasal mask was causing an imbalance of pressure in my middle ears. Now that I am wearing a full face mask, the problem has gone away.
That was only MY experience. Yours could be totally different, and in my opinion, would warrant a call to your doctor to be checked out.
Hope you find some answers!
