Where does MODEM data go?

Post by bakermo » Fri Jan 16, 2015 11:13 am

My machine is displaying an error when I put in the SD Card "SD Card: Remove and Reinsert".

I called my DME and they sent me another card but the issue remains.

When I called back they said they would send me a MODEM to replaced the SD card function. I asked how I would get my data and they said they didn't think I would be able to get a login so maybe they could send me the data once a month.

I told them this was not acceptable.

I have an appointment to take in my machine for an estimate and get a loaner.

Anybody know where the MODEM data goes and who has access to it?

Edit: I don't see my machine being listed even though I have it in my profile. It's a PR System One REMstar Pro CPAP Machine with C-Flex Plus.

The data would go to the DME provider or where ever the modem is programmed to send it.

Have you tried to pull the power out on the machine then put the disk in and re-plug it in. That took care of the issue when i had it.

I wish you well..

The problem may be the SD card I would try another blank SD card. On the machine choice; look at the the REF# on the bottom of the blower (after removing the water tank). If the number is a ?60 you have chose the PR one with the 60 series in it.

The modem data collected is vastly inferior to the data collected by the SD card.

Respironics does have a SleepMapper program to see the data collected by the modem and patients can get access. It's still vastly inferior to the SD card data.

Try a few different SD cards. Pretty much any SD card will work. It's not necessary to use Respironics. Don't tell the DME that you did so. They'll lie and blame you for breaking the machine. If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check for yourself.

Also, unplug the machine for a few minutes if you haven't already tried that.

I wonder how much the wireless charges are.
My DME said that they would not be opening an account for my new machine,
since Medicare does not want proof of compliance on my replacement machine
and they would not pay for monitoring.

From what I hear, it is basically a cellphone connection where only data is sent. Means it has a number if turned on. Not a lot of data is sent though. I would guess it would be bundled in a quarterly or yearly basis. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $9 a month.

Cell phone networks make some money, DME makes some money paid by insurance. For the mfg, it barely increases the cost per unit to include them built in.

Thanks for all the replies.

It is not the SD card. One of the pins in the SD reader is bent down so that it is not making contact. I can see it with my loop and a flashlight but I am not dexterious enought to repair it.

I have tried several cards and none work.

I have to unplug the machine to get it to stop beeping. Once I power it up with out a card it functions normally.

I'm a computer support guy that started life as an E.E. so I know my way around the stuff. I was just wondering where the data went and who would have access. It is beyond my comprehension that patient may not access their own data.

Anyway - I'll stick to my guns and not accept a machine without an SD card.

Thanks again!

Is the SD reader in your computer or is it a free range reader that will plug into the USB slot?
--or (horrors) is the slot in your cpap bent?

If you were delivered a damaged machine, I'd just call that unacceptable. Sounds like someone forced the card in improperly (upside down or backwards?). If it originally worked when you got it, well then...

I was given a modem with my replacement machine. Did not like the idea at all. The modem used AT&T but where I live the signal is weak.
As to where my data would go....a third party company who would then send the information to the DME who is only interested in comliancy and not how I am doing. The third party company would track my usage everyday and send an email if you were not being compliant. I kept getting emails saying I had not used my machine the last 4 days! Even after I returned the the modem I continued to get emails telling me I was not using my machine! LOL

I hope you get the card slot fixed or replaced under some kind of warranty. With the modem you only see the daily report on the machine and no way to see your daily info like you would with computer software.

I've had the machine for 3 years now. The error started after the last time I copied the data to my computer.

And to the other poster - yes it is the CPAP machine that has the bent pin.

I assume it's just a matter of one too many cycles for the pin as I have been removing the card weekly since I started my therapy.
