System One Series 60 - Manually setting humidity level?

Post by Dyssomniac » Sun Jan 11, 2015 9:06 pm

I've been using my Respironics System One Series 60 machine with heated humidifier for more than two months now. I set the dial for humidity level to 4 or 5 normally. However, in the morning the water level is rarely down even an eighth of an inch.

I realize this could be due to the fact that the ambient humidity is already sufficiently high, but I'd like to try manually setting the humidity level instead of relying on the machine to do it automatically. Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to do this manually?

As background, I seem to have having sinus issues and more frequent headaches since starting APAP therapy. Though there could be other causes, I'd like to experiment with humidity level of the machine at least to rule it out as a factor.

Indoor air is very dry in winter in the eastern U.S. but even when I lived in CA my humidifier would lose between 1/2 to 3/4 of the water in a single night at those settings. I recently changed to the heated hose upgrade on the 60 series, and the water consumption is the same.

Have you ever tried the preheat cycle by pressing the start button until the humidifier light comes on? It runs 1/2 hour before you start the machine. If you don't notice significant heat or humidity doing that, you need to verify the heater is working. If not, you need a repair.

Thanks, Sleeprider, I'll check that out. I'd still like to know how to set the humidity level manually, though, to try that as well.

when you turn it on, do you see any numbers around the dial, and if you turn the dial clockwise the numbers increase and counterclockwise to decrease the number? that is one way of manually setting it

That sets the desired humidity level, but in the default state the machine still turns humidification on and off depending on how humid it detects the air to be.

There is also a way to go in through one of the settings menus (not sure if it'd be one for the end user or for the therapeutic technician) to change over the humidification so that the dial will set the humidity level completely manually without the machine relying on what it detects about the air. I think (but am not entirely certain) that if you make that change, the numbers on the dial change from 1 2 3 4 5 to c1 c2 c3 c4 c5. This is what I'm looking for help on configuring.

The "manual" humidity setting is called "System One Humidification." Turn it off to get the manual version.

If you don't know how to get into the "secret" clinical settings, go to apneaboard.com.

Generally I'll drop about 1/2 the water at night.

I'm guessing the machine is in manual mode, but the "4" is most comfortable.

Still learning the machine, and SleepyHead.
