Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
Even though the mediums fit better, it seems that I breath better with the large pillows. Its very much like the mediums cause some restriction in exhaling and some strangeness in rhythm during inhale.
I'm sticking with the large pillows but am curious if anyone else experienced something similar.

Re: Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
Yep. DME sent me home with M pillows, since I got a "for her" mask. After coming here and reading up I discover many users needed to go up a size. Got a large from the DME to compare. When I switched back to the M I noticed exactly what you described, in addition to realizing that though they FELT like a better fit, they leaked at the slightest provocation, definitely a problem for a turbulent sleeper like me. So I look a wee bit pig nosed with the L, but I breathe and sleep better; I'll take it!.

Re: Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
I have the same problem with the P10. I notice that the mediums create a back pressure when exhaling and also they require an additional effort to take a deep breath. I have less leaks with the mediums but the large give me an unrestricted air flow feeling. I seem to get a more restful sleep with the large, due to a less labored breathing. My AHI doesn't seem to change from one size to another though. I wish ResMed would produce a size in between the medium and large. This is the only critique I have of the P10.

Having progressed through the Mirage Swift LT to the Swift FX and now the Airfit P10, the same was true for all three to me. I have consistently used the L pillow. Please save some for me in the Great Pillow Exchange.

the mediums and larges fit well enough, but inhaling with the mediums felt constricted to me.JimP wrote:Even though the mediums fit better, it seems that I breath better with the large pillows. With the medium. I feel a restriction in exhaling. So I went back to the large.

Hmmmmm......
Any suggestions as for cutting a medium to make inhale/exhale more like a large?

Jim, what are your pressure settings, and are you using the ramp feature? I guessing your sense of restriction probably occurs early, and ramp will contribute to the sense of not getting enough flow, as will a low minimum air pressure.JimP wrote:Hmmmmm......

Re: Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
Given that a large size works fine, I don't think it has to do with pressures. But you do raise an interesting point. Are those using a smaller nose thingy actually receiving less pressures....but that's another topic.Sleeprider wrote:Jim, what are your pressure settings, and are you using the ramp feature? As others have posted, the medium seems to fit better but the large gives better air flow. I'm just trying to figure out how I can get the fit of the medium with the opening of the large. Figured the medium could be modified by cutting the nose things to match that of the large.
Re: Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
Not less pressure but less volume for sure. Not sure why anyone would want to cut the large pillows if they work and are comfortable. They won't work properly. I'd say stick to the size that feels most comfortable.

Cut the medium....not the large.englandsf wrote:Not less pressure but less volume for sure. Not sure why anyone would want to cut the large pillows if they work and are comfortable. They won't work properly. I'd say stick to the size that feels most comfortable.
Re: Question about P10 using medium versus large pillows
My guess is "it's all in the mind" and when you fall asleep and the autonomic nervous system takes control breathing is fine.
(The caveats are that the mask is not leaking and your pressure settings are appropriate.)
