going the wrong way

Post by Ra101075 » Tue Dec 30, 2014 9:10 am

I'm a week into using my CPAP, the first five nights I was off work and able to sleep til around 8am. I had trouble getting to sleep, but generally felt a little more rested the next day. The last to days since going back to work and getting up at 6am I feel exhausted again and just want to go back to bed. I feel like I fall asleep quicker but still wake up every couple hours. The machine says I have no large leaks and my AHI is averaging .08. Is it normal to have a lag like this when starting treatment?

It can be, sure. "Normal" is hard to define at the start of CPAP, because everyone responds differently. Do you know why you're waking up every couple of hours? Are you waking up to leaks or the mask shifting or something?

My tips for you right now are as follows:
- Think about your sleep hygiene (Click here). CPAP itself will only help so much. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, and try to be consistent about it.
- If you haven't already done so, start using Sleepyhead. Your profile says you have a data-capable machine. The summary statistics are just that - a very limited summary. For example, my machine hasn't registered any large leak yet, but I know that there were nights where I had trouble with my mask shifting and I could tell from the SH leak graphs.
- Stick with it. A week is not really enough time to decide that it's not working. You will continue adjusting to it, and as you get used to CPAP you will be able to start zeroing in on specific things that we can help you fix. It can get better!

How many hours of sleep are you getting?
What are your pressure settings?

Something's weird here. Your profile shows that you have a "Plus" machine with no data capabilities, but yet you say no large leaks and state your AHI average. What machine DO you have?

Hm, quite right... one of your previous posts said you'd be getting the 460, which is the Pro, not the Plus. Are you sure you have the right machinery listed in your profile?

Time off work is good. Once you get in the groove, even weekdays can be better.
Even an occasional six hours of sleep is OK when it's flanked by good eights.
Good sleep is a life-changer!

yup, I had the wrong one listed, sorry about that. I have the Pro with c-flex (whatever that is). My pressure is set at 16. I have been using a fifteen min ramp so I can get my breathing in line with the machine. I was able to fall asleep rather quickly last night, I have been getting about 8 hrs a night and I am feeling much better today than the last two days .

you're likely picking off the wrong one.

if you have the 460, you need to pick this one:
460 PR System One REMStar 60 Series Pro CPAP Machine
