APAP or Auto-trial

Post by CzechCzar » Mon Dec 22, 2014 10:21 pm

Hello,

I just got a new Remstar Auto A Flex. I am used to normal straight CPAP procedures. I am eager to try the auto mode.

Should I jump right into APAP or is there some reason to use auto-trial?

Thanks!

Don't bother with auto-trial. Start with the same pressure as before for a few days and then gradually increase the maximum pressure and lower the minimum pressure. Use SleepyHead to see what pressure range your machine wanders through. Tinker until you find the happy medium for you.

If the urge to play with settings is too strong, start a little above and below where you are now.

Follow up questions: the machine is locked using 15mm tubing and I cannot unlock it. All the previous tubing I have ever used is 22. The tubing this machine came with is identical to my old tubing. Is there an easy way to confirm whether the tubing is really 15 or 22?

Also: is it possible to use two sleepyhead machines within one profile?

I belive the heated tubes are 15mm and if that is what you have on your heated humidifier it will lock the setting.

Two computers with sleepyhead can import the data as separate computers. Unless you are somehow sharing the data directory, they will be separate though and have their own profile.

for the first, use a ruler.

for the second, you can have two cpaps in one sleepyhead profile, sleepyhead doesn't care, just import the data into whatever profile you want.

I have a pretty good resistance to pressure and I went from an old diagnosis of 11 on cpap to the new APAP of 14-20. I started it right off the bat with the new PR System 1 as well as the new Z1 Auto with no ill effects. I actually think that the two new auto machines are more comfortable than my older Remstar and Z1.

Really depends on what they are asking. Do they have two cpap machines or are they trying to use sleepyhead in two computers. I read it as the latter.

well, regardless of what they're asking, my comment is correct as it's worded, just in case that is what they're asking

I read it as two cpap machines, though, since the thread started off with: "I just got a new Remstar Auto A Flex."

Hi all,

Thanks for your help. Regarding sleepyhead: I meant importing data from two machines into one profile. It sounds like Sleepyhead is OK with that, so I am too.

Regarding last night's sleep... I went to bed at 10, asleep by probably 10:30, and I awoke at 4:30... My prescribed CPAP setting was a 6.0, and I set my APAP range from 4.5 - 6.5. I am planning to increase it by 0.5 every couple of nights.

I awoke MUCH earlier than usual. I felt so so rested. That feeling went away, but I am still eagerly anticipating tonight's sleep.

A couple of further questions will follow!

Sooo, for those who are ocd enough, I made a spreadsheet. I would love to get your feedback. The yellow section is my only cause for concern. Does anybody know if the settings scale the same on CPAP/APAP machines if they are both System Ones?

My System One APAP has a 1-5 scale

What does that scale measure? There were a couple scales with my new machine.

Would somebody be able to confirm that I should gradually increase the maximum pressure from my prescription of 6? From reading online, the machine should only go up as high as it needs to. If I set the maximum to 20, it will only go up that high if it needs to, correct?

In other words, am I losing out on potentially useful data by limiting my maximum pressure in this early stage?
