How long to i start feeling good from CPAP?
How long to i start feeling good from CPAP?
HI,
I been two weeks on CPAP now, i get to sleep real fast with the mask on now and i am breathing well, I waking about 2 times a night to adjust my mask.
But im as tired if not more tired than when i first started, the doctor said i might start feeling more refreshed with more energy.
Is there an average time for when that "refreshed" feeling starts ?

How effective is your therapy? What is your treated AHI and leak level? Do you get dry mouth?

I don't average is very useful here .... somepeople it is the first night ... some the first week ... some the first month ... and some it take a year or more.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Short answer is no. Long answer different strokes for different folks. Some get results the first night, others days, weeks, months or longer.Ransid wrote:HI,

1. Practice good sleep hygiene every day
2. Eat a good diet
3. Have a regular, moderate exercise program,
and you eventually will start feeling energetic.

But read several sources and become well educated on sleep hygiene. It's important for everyone and especially so for us CPAPers. See also http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Sleep+Hygiene

According to my sleep doctor it can take your sleeping mind up to a month to trust that it can relax and let you sleep deeply. For years it stood on guard to prevent you from dieing in your sleep, now you stick a strange thing on it.
Then there is the fact that you have been abusing your organs for years with bad sleep and lack of O2. Some people feel more tired want more sleep because their body is saying "Get back to sleep so we can do the repairs we need to do now we have the fuel to do them"
A lot of the changes in the first few months can be very subtle, better moods, seeing the end of the tv show, things just being easier to understand. Try and keep a daily journal noting your moods, what you did and how you feel physically.

6 months in myself, and I honestly don't feel any better.
However...
I sleep through the night, I used to get up 5 or so times.
I actually dream, vivid dreams regularly, whereas I rarely used to.
So despite me not feeling better, the simple fact I am not getting up as often in the night suggests that less unknown damage is being done to my heart and body, so I am more than happy to continue. And hopefully I will start feeling better at some point alongside that, but even if I don't at least I will live longer.

I don't get the exercise part. How can you exercise when you are really tired? It takes all my strength to just get up and go to work.

There's a very good reason why I exercise.Noctuary wrote:I don't get the exercise part.

What do you consider exercise? In your condition, it might be just a walk around the block every evening.Noctuary wrote:I don't get the exercise part.
Are you practicing good sleep hygiene and eating a good diet? Are you using SleepyHead to check on the effectiveness of your CPAP therapy? Do you have any other health problems besides sleep apnea?Noctuary wrote:How can you exercise when you are really tired? It takes all my strength to just get up and go to work.
