Error E41

Anyone know what that means? I have a BiPAP S/T (the grey model) with the smart card.

I'm sorry, but I don't have that information. I have the provider's manual but not the Service manual, which is where it would be listed. Another option would be to call the place you purchased it from (DME or online seller) and if they can't provide you with that information, you could try calling or e-mailing Respironics.

I don't have the service manual on your machine either but the service manual on the same series Auto lists an E-41 as:
E-41 ERR_BIST_THREAD_LOCKED •Defective PCA •Replace Main PCA . It may not be the same but could be close.

...and the PCA is?? I think I've had the error before and thought I just went away. Maybe it's an indicator of other things!!

Thanks,
Kelvin

PCA is an acronym for 'Printed Circuit Assembly', in this case the main circuit board in the machine where the microcontroller (a computer system on one or a few chips) and its associated electronic components are located. In any case, when a microcontroller reports a 'thread locked', it is referring to a computer program 'execution thread'. The 'thread' may be 'locked' because of a memory problem, or the microcontroller tried to execute data as code (or looked at code as data) and got thoroughly confused. In any case, if this persists, or has rendered the machine inoperable, it is a serious problem.

I wish every piece of equipment I worked with had diagnostics as good as some of the xPAP machines do!

Thanks for the help. It did the same thing last night. I've spend most of the day so far talking back & forth to the place I got my machine. Since they just replaced it 23 DAYS ago they're trying to balk on repacing it a 2nd time so soon.

Did it get dropped or get wet inside?

Not while I've had it.

So after the 4th phone call & talking to the supervisor I was told the error message meant there was a blockage on the outside someplace...a kinked hose, faulty humidifier, etc. She said try it tonight without the humidifier attached & see what happens then call her back tomorrow. She said they hadn't even got the insurance co. to pay for this machine yet, much less a 2nd replacement in less than a month. So I might be in a fix even if this machine straightens out. But if it doesn't? I'm most certainly up the creek.

Uhhh...the insurance company shouldn't be paying to replace defective machines. They should have a warranty if new.

If your machine is giving you any kind of error code, please demand a replacement from your DME. The machine "should" be under warranty.

Its amazing how many dealers don't know how to work with Respironics warranty program.
It won't work for you, so go into your DME and while you stand there, have them call Respironics customer service line. 1-800-345-6443. Option 1, Option 3, listen to the music for a while, talk to the technician, give them the account number, or if they don't know it, like most large corporate places don't, their zip code, give them the serial number. Tell them the issue, and request a warranty replacement. They'll get a return authorization number, Respironics will Fed Ex a replacement unit overnight, they'll use that return auth number, follow the instructions on the return Fed Ex label Fed Ex will come pick it up, and everyone's happy. Your new warranty starts with your new machine.

not quite so easy as replacement usually. Usually they will want it sent in for repair if it is a Bipap.

Clean/Replace the filters & bypass the humidifier.
