First CPAP night tonight

Post by xchecker » Mon Dec 08, 2014 7:34 pm

Met my LPN at the DME this morning to receive my new Airsense Autoset and Eson mask. It's the same mask I used during my titration which seemed to go pretty well, hopefully it will continue to work well for me "in the field". I picked up some distilled water and wipes but beyond that I'll just try this all out for a while to see what else I may need. I'll also go back and re-read some of the helpful tips and tricks threads here.

The LPN mentioned that she comes on these sites to get ideas and suggestions herself, so thank you all on her behalf as well as mine.

I'll report back once I have some hours under my belt (nose?).

Thanks again for the support!

You can do it!

One thing that someone here recommended and its cheap enough to not break the bank, yet make a huge difference is a hose holder.

I got this one, http://www.amazon.com/North-American-He ... ose+holder

and it has made a difference to me, in terms of not feeling like I can't -move- around in bed....(I turn a lot).

Great! Thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind.

It seams that you have a very positive attitude about the cpap ing .... that is very important.
Have you looked at Sleepyhead software, it will allow you to look at how you are doing.
looks like you have been reading here for about a month so you probably allready know about it.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

Yes, thanks. I'm one of those people who likes to study up on things - knowledge comforts me! I downloaded the software last night. I presume the next step is to hook up a card reader to the PC, pull the SD card from the machine and read it into the software, yes? How often do people typically read their data?

BTW, made it through about six hours last night. Had some mouth breathing - I think the belching is what woke me! I may need to get a chin strap after all.

If your computer has a slot for a SD card then you don't even need a card reader.
If it doesn't have a slot for a SD card then yes...a carder reader/adapter is needed so you can make use of the USB port.

With ResMed...you probably should download the data at least once a week. I am not sure how the AirSense does the detailed data graph files in terms of overwriting the older files (or even if it overwrites them) but to be safe I would at least download once a week. In the past with the S9 machines the hi definition detailed files were over written after 7 nights..with oldest being overwritten first (this would be the flow rate graph) and with the other graphs 30 days was when they would be overwritten.

Otherwise how often you want to review your data is up to you. Most newbies will do it fairly often when first starting therapy because they are curious. With time and experience (especially if the reports are boring) the frequency of actually looking at the data will become less and less for a lot of people. I am using a S9 machine right now...I haven't downloaded in 6 days so I need to do it so that I won't lose some graphs. Now I probably won't look at the data beyond last night's AHI but by doing the download at least once a week I know that all the files are there IF I should want to look at them.
My reports are rather boring for the most part so if I look at the details it's mainly AHI and leak line.
I look at leak line so that I will know if I can trust the reported AHI or not.

we should get 'the frog' to confirm, the manual for the AS10 indicated that it'd keep detailed data "depending on card size and free space"... which'd be cool

things get easier after the major changes. Minor tweaking til you dial in on comfortable, effective settings, then pretty much cruise along til you need a minor adjustment...With luck, that's enough to handle your OSA.

Maybe duct tape!? It would cut down on my shaving time in the morning!
