Thoughts? Obviously not meant as a CPAP-type device, I just ran across this article.

Very intriguing. I think a device like this has a lot of potential, but I'd like to learn more about it's accuracy before I consider buying one. Now if Resmed intregrated the S+ into their next xPAP series of machines that might really be interesting.

I agree. That would make it interesting. The accuracy and integration could make it useful. If it is just some standalone thing, I don't see too much of a use. Heck, my wife's fitbit claims to monitor sleep patterns as well.

The fitbit and other activity monitors monitor motion while sleeping. They assume that if you move you are awake. That is probably true, but not always. Fitbit just unveiled new devices which should be available next year, and those are said to track which sleep stage you are in.

Don't get me wrong. I think the S+ is useful even as a stand alone device. If it is accurate, lots of people who don't have OSA will be able to make use of it, and gather more information about themselves. I think that is awesome! However the selfish CPAP user in me would like to see something that is integrated into the device that is already sitting on my night stand.

nickberti said he got one around the first of Nov and was going to report back, but I haven't seen anything yet.

FWIW Bed Bath & Beyond has the S+ device for sale at $150. I've also seen some posted on E-bay for about $125

I want one just to mess with it to see if I can fool it...but I don't want to mess with it bad enough to spend that much money. I look at this like I looked at the Zeo...will it change anything about what I do? Will I change anything based on what it may or may not show? Will I feel better?

I don't use data to judge how I feel...I try to avoid that slippery slope whenever I can. It's too easy to make my own self fulfilling prophecy.

Now just being curious...and liking gadgets...and didn't have a better place to spend the money...yeah, might be fun to try to fool it. Right now...I need propane worse than I need a fun gadget just to play with.

I could not have said it any better. Without that pile of cash available, I will have to see extensive reports from here and elsewhere first. I still want one, just not for that price.

The review sounded like it was written by a Resmed employee in the marketing department.

As soon as I have time to shovel through the pile of cash covering my nightstand maybe I'll get one.

IMHO, a motion detector can never be as truthful as EEG, like the Melon.

I asked Resmed how a CPAP user might use this and here is their response...

Thank you for contacting ResMed Sensor Technologies S+ Customer Service. The unit is designed to pick up on possible loud noises and movements. If you use a CPAP, you will want to keep the S+ directed in a way where it will not pick up the sounds of the device running, or any fan or vibration movements the machine creates. If you can, keep the CPAP machine on the far side of your body, opposite the S+ sensor. Lower levels of ambient noise may not always be defects, including softer running CPAP devices. We hope this helps. Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

Get your Bedside Zeo back out, Woody's software makes it easy and informative to use, with lots of nice historical views and SleepyHead compatibility.
