F & P HC150 stand alone heated humidifier

Post by Hawthorne » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:03 pm

I have 2 of these units and always used this humidifier until I got a PR System one machine. I have a 550 Bipap machine right now.
When I got my first System One I called cpap.com and asked if I could use the F& P standalone humidifier with it. I was told - no.

I like the fact that I can preheat with the F & P. I also like the size of the water chamber. It also has very graduated humidity and I like that because I use only passive humidity most of the year and a very low setting when I need some heat in the colder winter months.

Does anyone use this with a PR System One? As I said I have a 550 model, so no heated hose and I don't want that.
Can I use my F&P with my 550 PR System One bipap?

The short answer is Yes & YES.

I do and have for years. I use the 150 in passover. You can use the heat on it if you need or want to, if it is too much just turn down or OFF the humidity on the 550. It may take some fiddling but Yes you can use the HC 150 with any PRS1 just connect in series.

With the added volume I don't recommend using a hose longer than 6ft. bc the added volume does affect pressure at the mask AND event detection - you may think you have an AHI of 0.0 but may not be real.

Thanks! Thanks, also, for the extra information about the hose length.

It's good to find someone who has used this setup! Helps a lot!

Oops- re- reading your reply - I don't want to use both the 550 humidifier AND the F & P stand alone - just the F & P stand alone. Does than make any difference?

I want detach the 550 humidifier and attach the F&P - having only the one humidifier.

Yep!
You can use the HC150 in two different configurations of System one machines including the 550.
1. Remove the humidifier from the blower unit and install the cover plate (the plate is optional but looks nicer). Then connect the HC150 to the air outlet port.

2. Just connect the HC150 to the air outlet port of the humidifier and set the humidifier to off and leave the water chamber empty.

Either way, you are good to go.

I haven't done it that way but as indicated, I am sure it will work fine with the PRS1 humidifier removed. Tho you will need that special adapter for the hose on the machine.

My HC150 came with two of those adapters. However I just checked and the air outlets on the HC150 water chamber fit standard CPAP hoses, the short connector hose that connects between the blower unit and the HC150 has standard ends, and it also fits the air outlet of the System One air outlet.

With either the empty 550 humidifier attached or taken off, you are good to go.

Yes, I just checked out my F & P 150 and all the parts are stored with it - the small hose and 2 adapters. I don't really have room for 2 humidifiers on the cabinet I have for my cpap setup.

I used it with my M Series and also with my Intellipap. I don't know why, whoever I talked to at cpap.com, said I couldn't use it with the System One.

Thanks again!

That is correct, my mistake, thinking about the M series which needs the adapter to connect a hose if the humidifier is removed. As mentioned I had not before this removed the PRS1 humidifier but yes it does have the right connection to just fit the hose on it - kudos to PR for fixing that problem.

The PRS1does have a panel that can be used if the humidifier is removed but it is not required to use the machine.
