Resmed S9 AutoSet versus AirSense 10?

Post by RogerSC » Sat Nov 15, 2014 5:16 pm

Now that the AirSense 10 has been out for a while, I'm curious if anyone that has had both an S9 and AirSense 10 would care to comment about any perceived differences? Any advantages to the AirSense 10, or disadvantages over the older model?

I'm curious if they've actually moved their product forward, or if they've just put a newer package around basically the same thing? Don't care about the cellular data thing, that's not interesting (to me).

Thanks.

Not a lot. I find the "for her" algorithm smoother, and the machine is slightly quieter.
I no longer have to hold down two buttons for the "real" sleep report.
The dimmer was a bad idea. Filters and the card slot are on the end, so much easier to access.
If the firmware upgrade is a "real thing"-- I don't know, but that would be good.

From my first impression the next generation AirSense looks less like a pseudo clock radio (which the S9 intentionally emulated) and more like a hybrid CPAP machine on steroids, what with the glaringly exposed humidifier chamber. But hey, for me it's all about function over form as the old engineering saying goes. Whatever works is the most important thing when the sun goes down and you put on your mask.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The AirSense bilevels aren't out yet or when I got my new machine so I got the S9. I saw an AirSense in person at my last sleep Dr visit. It is physically smaller/taller, looks like a clock radio to me and the tank looks smaller. Not sure but I think you need to remove the tank to fill it, which I am glad the S9 didn't have. I like being able to just open the lid and fill it.

Well, thanks for the replies...nobody sounds very excited. So I'll just ignore them for the time being. At least until mine conks out *smile*.

I decided to buy a used spare S9 Auto instead - cheaper and now I have dupes of everything, and always one packed and ready for travel.

I found this by typing the following phrase into my internet browser's search window, I used Google: site:cpaptalk.com airsense

viewtopic/t101946/Airsense-10-review.html

It looked like there were a few other evaluations but I'll leave that up to you to determine. It appears nobody was overwhelmed by lots of earth-shaking new features.
