Hello, everyone! I am newly diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and have had my CPAP machine for a little more than a week. I am wearing my mask through the night but getting to sleep is a struggle. I would like to get some recommendations for bed pillows.
Here is some information that may help with a recommendation:
- I breathe through my mouth, so I need something that accommodates a full-face mask.I sleep on my side.
- With the standard pillows I have now, the mask mashes against my face, causing leaks and leaving marks.
- I use two pillows under my head, so I need a pillow that's thick (or a suggestion for what to do if the pillow is thin).
I think that's it. I look forward to hearing from you.

when I was using the ffm, and still with the nasal pillows, I'd just sleep on the edge of a regular pillow (or two) so the mask bit is hanging over.

I use a full face mask and use one regular fairly flat pillow and a buckwheat hull pillow on top of the first pillow. This combination gives some height, and the buckwheat pillow is moldable. I can push the hulls around to accommodate my hose and bottom part of the mask.

Try a special cut out pillow (cap.com sells them) if you want to stay with a FFM but I'd still try to get on with pillows because they are way harder to dislodge. I like the P10.

I had the same problem with my mask leaking because it would move around too much. I found a buckwheat pillow on Amazon that really seems to help. There is plenty of extra filling do it doesn't go flat and the buckwheat doesn't shift the mask too much.
Good luck. Hope you find one that works for you

I just received a cpapafit pillow off of amazon made by pure sleep i believe, it has buckwheat hulls and shredded foam in it, it was amazing last night to sleep on, and i was able to sleep on my side! the pillow, shapes to your face, and does not move that shape, so you can made it fit your mask creases, and just shake it when you get up in the morning, to make it better again. check it out

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I am seeing some improvement by sleeping on the edge of the pillow. So many people have recommended the buckwheat hull pillow that I'm definitely going to explore that too!

I started using a buckwheat pillow a while back and it works great at keeping the mask from being pushed around. Be aware though that it is quite firm.

I love this pillow! Yes, it is quite firm but I did get used to it. I had a problem with it being too firm against my ear but I figured out that if I make a little indentation in the pillow where my ear is going to be, it isn't a problem at all.
I highly recommend this pillow!

This is the pillow I use.. I love it so much. You can customize it the way you like it. I added some micro beads to mine that I got from a useless micro bed pillow that I had on hand. It made my pillow cozy.

And my saga continues.
I have the buckwheat pillow and LOVE it. At about the same time I got the pillow, I exchanged masks and am now using the Quattro FX due to mask leakage with the AirFit. Now, however, I am developing red, itchy dry patches on my face around the mask. Since it is around the mask, I wonder if it's the problem. However, I am allergic to all kinds of stuff so I can't rule out an allergic reaction to something with in the pillow, even though it's in a pillowcase. I slept without the pillow last night--and had a miserable time--and can't really tell if it made a difference with the dry patches or not.
Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences to share? One thing to note is that I am not likely to have success without the full-face mask; I also have a deviated septum.

After a few months I got a buckwheat hull pillow and after a week or so getting used to the firmness it works great. If I decide to get another pillow it would probably be the Pure Sleep one with buckwheat hulls and foam. It sounds like a more comfortable option than straight buckwheat hulls.
Why not try mask liners? Might help the skin irritation. Check out the RemZzzs Padded Full Face CPAP Mask Liners. You just need to locate the size for your Quattro fx - looks like it's the same size/style of liner for both that and the Airfit 10 mask, and then you could even try the Airfit 10 again with a liner and see if it works better than before.

I had a reaction to my nasal mask when I first started CPAP with redness and blisters. I forgot to wash the mask before use and I'm not sure if that was the reason or if my skin just didn't like the silicone. Liners helped my face and made the mask more comfortable with less movement. I started with the Remzzz and they work but, you place them on the mask each night and when my husband went to sleep before me Remzzz were a little hard to do in the dark. I then tried PadACheek. They fit on the mask and stay until you need to wash them. Some people here have made their own liners out of soft old tee shirts by laying the mask on the material and tracing around it then cutting the opening.
