sleeping under the blanket with CPAP>?

Post by anonfan1432 » Sat Nov 08, 2014 10:55 pm

So i've heard you shouldn't sleep under neath your blankets, because the carbon dioxide will build up and you can get carbon dioxide poisoning from that, but what if you are using yoru CPAP?
It seems like you wouldn't have to worry about excess carbon dioxide, since you are not breathing in the actual air in the blanket. You are getting fresh air from the outside pumped into you.

My main motivation is that it's hard to get my room really dark. I have black out curtains, but i live in a studio apartment with a giant glass sliding door, and i live right on the walkway where there are a ton of lights that are on 24/7, which actually penetrate through the black out curtains.

Light will not penetrate aluminum foil, or aluminum tape.
It may look crazy, but desperate measures . . .
Of course there are lots of very nice eye masks.
Pulling the blankets over your head would be fairly harmless,

Theoretically, it should work. My thought would be that the covers near the mask exhaust may intensify the vent noise. I know even with my head outside the covers, if the sheet or blanket gets too near the vent, it can get pretty loud.

Black paint, I made a dark room out of a pantry with black paint. Turn a diving helmet into a cpap mask, paint the glass black. jim

It works. I used a fleece blanked to cover the head. But it was too warm, much too warm! Normally you lose on the head and breathing a lot of heat, which does not work under a blanket.

It is suitable for extremely low temperatures, otherwise it takes a long time to get used to it.

You can sleep however, wherever you want, but the point is to never block the CO2 vent with bedding or you end up rebreathing it (and feel lousy) which is not what you want to do. It's up to you to find a balance between staying cozy and being sure the vent stays clear.

or the hose even, I have noticed that if the hose is in line with the vent it seems to "echo" and intensify the sound of the air leaving the mask

Go to felt store. Where they sell materials for sewing ect... A felt shop.
Ask for black out material. Measure your windows before you go and add about six inches to your length and width.
It will cost you about 30 dollars. Maybe a bit more or less. I have big sliding doors.
To keep them there you buy some Velcro . They will sell it there. Or I use large clip from the stationary store or Home Depot.
My sister sewed this black out. Material behind the cheapo material (that looks nice, but won't black out) from bed bath a beyond.
If you want to do something else you can go to a hydroponic store ask for the material they use to black out rooms for indoor growing. It's a thick plastic type. But no light will get through. Rest a sure. A little pun there.....
Ps..it's cheaper but harder to manipulate every morning and night when you take down and put it up.

sounds like you need better curtains, the blackout curtains I have have allow a very faint amount of light through when the sun is shining onthem, and that's much more light than any outdoor lights, unless maybe your apartment is in the middle of a football field.

This, I have blackout curtains in my bedroom because of working nights, I picked them up from walmart (I prefer 2 sets per window so that they "bunch" more and do a better job) the afternoon sun shines directly on the windows and its still VERY dark in my room when they are closed, I am talking dark enough that you need to turn a light on in order to do more than go from the bed to the bathroom.

Make sure you have a quick escape route for when you have to pee.
