I have just 1 unit at the moment. I'd LIKE to get a hold of a spare, probably another 560 so I can use the same power cords and know what I'm doing. I also need to check if there is a way to regularly switch between a pair of machines and not have major issues convincing work of compliance. Swap the modem between the two?

I started out with a PR 550. I own the humidifier outright, the insurance company sort-of-but-not-really owns the blower (Aetna's permanent charge you every 6 months for nothing program).

This spring I bought a PR 560 for a deal on Craigslist. I own both humidifier and blower outright. It is now my primary machine. The insurance company's 550 is one of my backups. I upgraded the firmware on the 550 when I got the 560.

I very recently found another 550 on Craigslist. I own this one outright also. The blower has firmware that is now outdated. When the insurance company wants its 550 back I will probably give them the blower I just bought.

So, um, yeah, I have three machines total.

I have a battery backup for power outages.

I got two complete PRS1 562 incl. mask and extra hoses, one by insurance, one bought by myself and I got a battery for backup or camping.

Greetings

I just got a brand new S9 so my old machine is now the back up machine.

Ditto; an old Respironics "tower" with a rotating "switch" under the "hood" to set pressure; not even a digital readout! Got in in the late '90s, and it proved useful when my M Series bi-pap had to be sent away for repairs.

Finding a backup is something that I need to look into. I've been putting it off because it appeared that I might need to step up to an ASV unit, but now it seems that bipap will be sufficient.

I have an S9 VPAP Auto now. If I dont find another at a good price what other machines might serve well as a backup?

Thanks

this one was spotted by our resident craigslist prowler: http://chico.craigslist.org/hab/4744993825.html I emailed the guy and he confirmed that it's a VPAP S, which would be a pretty good backup for your vpap auto.

the seller says the machine has 4,358 hours on it, which isn't bad. it's a pretty good price.

he also says he has an s8 elite II he'd be willing to sell cheap to someone in need.

Funny you should ask. I got my original ASV from a forum member at a very fair price and used it for a month or so, then I saw another one for sale at an even better price on CPAPtalk. I dragged my feet, made an low offer, haggled a bit, then got the proffered ASV machine at a really great price, mostly to serve as my backup (it was a different but respected brand).

Jump forward a month and my original ASV had some severe problems and I had to send it in to Accurate BioMed (a forum member) for warranty service. It was gone for almost three weeks. Luckily I had my back up machine, because I'd have totally unraveled if I gone three weeks without therapy. Backups can be very cheap or expensive. Mine was about in the low/middle range... that being said, a back up machine provides a great peace of mind if you can afford it. Obviously don't expect any insurance plans to go along with this backup scheme

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Ok...sidenote, I'm no longer passively looking for a backup machine. I found one. Now I need another full time job to support my hobbies and therapy.

I have a backup for mine - could use my Icon, straight CPAP ugh! But don't yet have one for hubby & he's always been on auto. If his has a problem he could use mine & I could use the Icon. I've been kinda passively looking for a back up machine for him. I've been watching CL & something will hopefully pop up soon.

Oh and in a real emergency I could use my old M series, its probably not safe, electrically, but as the saying goes "any port in a storm".
