I did my first one today as well. Just kind of gives you a sense of satisfaction doesn't it?

I miss the spam I used to love scrolling through the forum in the early morning just to catch the newest spam posted to this forum. Now I have to be satisfied to with the 70 or so I get by email each day.

Thanks Johnny for giving us the power to clear the junk!

Dale

Hmm, I think when you click on that button, it deletes the whole topic, not just a particular post. Is this correct? I think I just found this out that hard way.

I felt like I was missing out on all the fun until last night when I got the opportunity to kill four spam posts within just a few minutes of each other.

It was fun! It was kinda like playing PacMan. There was let down after the fourth one though. I kept waiting for the fifth one to show up . . .

Regards,
Bill

Aw man, I'm a bit jealous. Nt sure why, but it's been kinda quiet this week as far as spam goes or people have just been getting to them before I see them listed.

Just to clarify what happened. When you clicked remove spam, it also stopped that post as being the last post for the thread (in terms of sorting). Not counting that spam post, the last post was likely in 2005 sometime and if you were to go back to the threads from back then, you will find the thread that you removed the post from.

Theo,

Just wanted to give you guys a big "THANK-YOU". Your efforts are deeply appreciated and I hope it'll work out making your lives (monitoring the forum) easier, too.

Actually, I haven't gotten/had to delete very many, yet.

Best wishes,

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I hope that was the case. That brings up another question. If once it is reviewed and that particular post is said to be spam, will that post be removed and the topic put back out there? I ask because I'm not sure if the one I did the delete on was an old one ore not.

The topic is always somewhere in the listing. It's just treated as though the spam wasn't there. It appears that a lot of the spam we get are random posts from topics that are about year old. So, when you removed the spam, it took the previous post on that topic and used that for sorting. That puts it out on page 150 or so. If spam was added to this topic and then removed, the topic will still show up on the first page of posts, just farther down the list than when it had spam on it.

Theo,

Do you have any idea why those spams get attached to OLD threads?

Nope. Maybe spammers get a kick out pulling up old topics.
