also posted as?

Post by herefishy » Mon Oct 27, 2014 1:54 pm

I see people who post as "guest" obviously intending to remain anonymous, but I see other posts that say guest, also posted as "joe blow" or some such. How do I say something snarkey as "guest" without the system picking up my "also posted as" username.

You take your "Snarkey", and post on a site you haven't signed up for. A site dedicated to just " Trolls Only"! Jim

Why do that, just an overwhelming urge, to get their Troll On.

You have to hide from cpaptalk.com filters picking you out as already been here and registered.
Not sure exactly how it is done...either a totally new computer or IP address or running it through some sort of proxy and just let the "guest" ID be the only one that the filters can see.
It takes more than just logging in once you are registered or not logging in. There is also a way to have multiple forum IDs and not the filters pick them up and show the "previously posted as" thing.

I think it is either IP address or proxy being used but never tried it as it takes some work to figure out so I never bothered since I didn't need to do that work and wasn't inclined to do the work.

It's probably fairly easy once someone knows what they need to do.

I've actually done it before. I'm trying to remember what I did. Obviously log out of cpaptalk.com, but then I think I had to clear some memory or cache somewhere???

I'm almost positive that some type of clearing had to be done to keep that "also posted as" from popping up.

You probably need to clear your browser cache (as well as logging out, of course *smile*), and clear your browser's cookies. If you know how to clear cookies just for this site, that would be ideal, but clearing all your cookies occasionally gets rid of the deletria that you don't need anyways *smile*.

With my browser, Chrome, you just go into Settings, Content Settings, and look at all cookies. Put "cpap" in the search window in the upper right hand corner of that window, and you'll see all the cpaptalk and cpap.com cookies. You can just remove them. That should work for your secret trolling.

Note: the above is not enough...there's some private data somewhere that cpaptalk is using to keep track of us. Don't care enough to spend time on it, though...I'm fine with posting as myself *smile*.

Private mode in Firefox, failed.

One thing to remember if you do succeed, you can take credit for all Snarky Remarks on the forum, that could become a high count. Jim

I'm not going to remove my cookies, just to be Snarky. My milk would go sour, plus I enjoy milk and cookies too much. Jim

Use a different browser on your machine to post those "snarkey" comments. Then evaluate the effect.

This way, you won't need to clear browser cookies/history for your primary browser. Use any of the following as your secondary browsers: Chrome/Safari/Opera/IE

Cheers.

it's picking up your IP number - you can find old posts with lots of names which came from AOL users
