Hot tub

Post by Nickdog » Mon Oct 27, 2014 11:41 am

This is a hypothetical, for fun. Something I was thinking of while falling asleep, and then incorporated into a dream. Which. I remembered. A question: my cpap is set at 12, and has a really good snug fit. If I had it on could I sleep in my hot tub underwater and breath ok. I know I could potentially electrocute myself and as that, but if I didn't electrocute myself, is it possible.

It is not scuba gear and designed to be in open air not under water.

Did you forget the vent holes? I think they would probably put a serious crimp in your fun...they would let a lot of water in to the nasal pillows and that wouldn't be so great going into your lungs.

But you could do a similar experiment and not put yourself in danger of drowning or electrocution by putting your head totally under the covers and sleep that way without having to worry about re-breathing a bunch of carbon dioxide laden air.

Yea, yea, yea, I know all the bad stuff. I get it! But, my question is , is it possible? Remember this is a hypothetical. Would/could it work?

PS: it's a full facemask, not a nasal type.

I know some good soup kitchens looking for volunteers who want to fill up their day.

I believe in theory it would work, to a depth of 11cm. At a depth of 12.5cm, you are breating water.

You won't be able to go very deep. At a pressure setting of 12, your machine could blow bubbles out of a hose submerged 12cm into the hot tub. That is a little under 5 inches. It might actually work, but you could seriously damage your machine or your mask and you might end up snoot full of water. Obviously, if the machine falls into the hot tub, you could be electrocuted.

If you really want to breath under a few inches of water just buy a snorkle.

That is positively Darwinian in its stupidity.

Also, never sleep in a hot tub, with or without "equipment". The second you feel too warm is the second you are supposed to get out, because they can raise your core temp and if that is not responded to by getting out immediately, pretty dangerous.

Health wise you are only supposed to be in hot water for a maximum of 20 minutes after that your body may not be able to handle keeping you at a steady temperature then all hell breaks lose internally. You can die from staying in hot water for more the 20 minutes.

I fantasized about the same thing. But set the hot tub at about 97 degrees so you wouldn't
get thermal overload and using a 20 foot air hose would eliminate the electrocution hazard.
But for real too many other dangers like knocking your mask off when you are 12 " under the
water would you wake up before filling your lungs with water ect.
