Sooo.......you are saying that the fact that it *looks* like fiberglass isn't good for your lungs? Why would your lungs care what it *looks* like.
I hate it when my lungs judge things based on what they look like instead of what they are.....

I suspect it's some sort of plastic fiber like polyethylene. I think I saw the material listed somewhere, but don't remember whether that was ResMed or Respironics.
Wherever I saw it, the hypoallergenic and regular filters were polymer plastic fibers, with the plastic type being different between the two types.
My understanding is that pretty much any kind of fibers inhaled into your lungs are bad, but some are worse. Fiberglass and asbestos are bad mainly because they're stiff, small, "pointy", and non-biodegradeable.

Wouldn't tiny strands of plastic qualify as stiff, small and pointy? Well anyway I found the original paper type filters elsewhere and ordered a bunch of them to last me a while.

LSAT wrote:Basically, I understand that the primary purpose of the filter is to protect the inside of the CPAP unit. No particles from the filter would make it through the machine, the humidifier/water and the hose. To protect you from any contaminant you would need a filter in the hose or mask. Are you sure that you don't have a fiberglass filter in your furnace?

My understanding is that they are for people with allergies to filter out allergens. They did not originally come with the machine, I had to ask for them. And, yes, my furnace does have exposed fiberglass insulation inside the blower box on the *other* side of the filter and I don't like it one bit!! Supposedly it's sealed with a chemical spray but I'm sure that breaks down over time :/ The filters I put in the furnace are not fiberglass, though.

I believe they are made of polyester.
Whatever, a filter made for breathable air would have to pass some kind of tests.
The fine filters collect more gunk, so you need to change them more often.
A dirty filter may release some of what it has collected, so getting a fresh one every now and then is a good idea.
Look for free shipping near any holiday. Note the code, and write it down before you start filling your cart.
Maybe insurance won't cover aromatherapy --but Flex did.

he should just cover his lungs eyes while putting the filters in.

Tear one apart to isolate those "fiberglass looking" fibers. Hold a flame up to them - if they catch fire or shrink back (melt), they are not fiberglass.

His lungs' eyes, or his eyes' lungs?
I'm soooo confused.

Preferably not while still in the machine....

that would solve several of the problems, actually.

Right on their pages there is a free shipping code right now HOPE2014 and they are giving 5 percent to the national breast cancer society. I notice I get free shipping codes on Facebook often too. HTH

If people sign up to get the cpap.com newsletter and check emails ....free shipping with special codes is often seen.
It's also on the cpap.com website but I don't go there daily just to check for codes but getting the email alerts me to the codes for free shipping or special offers.
If I am interested I keep the email and if not I trash it.
Also another little hint...sometimes if you hang around in checkout long enough a little pop up will show up offering free shipping on those small purchases like the filters. I have had it happen when no other free shipping was offered.
Doesn't happen often but I have seen it numerous times.
Just don't be in a big hurry to checkout.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

They may be made of recycled belly button lint. Recycling is good for the environment.

Depending on whose belly button lint it is, I may be interested...
