ResMed S9 Wireless Module

Post by Digeeedad » Sun Oct 05, 2014 10:30 am

I'm a few weeks into using new machine, a ResMed S9 autoset, that I got from Apria. My machine has a wireless module but when connected keeps flashing a "No network available" message, so I disconnected it. My insurance authorized the purchase of my S8 Elite, which I used for 5 years, and never did anyone ever request any usage information or anything. I signed the Apria papers where they insisted that I leave a credit card on file, for payment if the insurance company refused. Why would the insurance company refuse payment, if they were the ones to authorize the machine? Should I be concerned about the wireless module not working/connecting or perhaps contact Apria?

In the immortal words of my grandmother, "Don't call the wolf out of the forest." (She said it in Polish, but you get the idea.)

If someone comes after you to establish compliance, they can pull the data from your machine itself. It's not your fault the wireless module doesn't work.

I am insured by Aetna, my DME is Apria, and almost four years in they just robo-call me every couple of months and ask me if I'm compliant and then offer to sell me supplies.

In my experience, the DME does not activate the module until they want to access the data. Mine flashed until the day I was downloaded. Often this is 30 days after you start.

If you are expecting them to access it, leave it attached, and they will probably access it and get it working.

IOW, don't sweat it for now.

Thanks for the reply. I should probably just do as you suggest and not be concerned about it....

Just watch your billing...Apria has a habit of billing your credit card for items the insurance company is paying for. There has been several examples of this. That's why we advise that you do not give Apria access to your credit card.....especially when you know that your purchase is covered by insurance.

Rephrasing what LSAT said, it is safer to post your credit card info and social security number on a billboard along the interstate as it passes through downtown, than it is to give it to Apria.
The first and only time Crapria mentioned complience was when I called about my order for a hose. They provided my machine 1 year ago. No modem and no inquiry til last week.

Check with your insurance if they even need "compliance", since this is a replacement.
Repeat purchases usually follow years of compliance.
Apria doesn't always know, care about, or tell the truth--that's just their business model.
My DME said that in my case, any signal from the modem would not be used.
"It would cost money and is not necessary". I set the airplane mode to "on",
and the machine repeatedly nags me if I'm sure I want to keep it "on" (modem off)
I wonder if this is a forever thing, or if it will stop pestering me after a while.
Otherwise, the machine is awesome. I'm very happy with it.

Never once in the past 5 years has anyone asked me about compliance or any other data, so I'd guess that will still hold true. Whenever I have called my HMO group or insurance, it's been pretty obvious that the persons I have talked with knew little or nothing about CPAP issues.... or even cared! lol
