Another newbi question humidifier question

If you have a head cold do you change your humidifier setting?

The guy at the medical supply company told me to keep mine between a 3-4, 3 has seemed good until last night. I don't know if it really matters just trying to make sure I do everything I can to smooth this transition out.

Turn the round knob and you can make it higher or lower. You'd expect higher humidity to be more comfortable, but sometimes less is more comfortable.

There's no "right" setting. It's trial and error for each person.

Does your display show a number from 1-6 when you turn the knob, or a temperature number?

Yes, right night now I keep it at three just wondering if it helps setting it higher if I am stopped up.

More humidity can cause congestion - but you know, the humidifier is not 'therapy' and you're not only free to adjust it all over the place if you want - experiment - but to not use it at all, or only at times of the year when e.g. central heating may cause more dryness, or if you live in Arizona, or if you're in Oregon, you may never need it... all up to you.

In terms of if you catch a cold and have that sort of congestion a lot of forum members will increase the humidity to help with the congestion. Think of a hot steamy shower and does it help your congestion when you have a cold.....the humidifier doesn't/can't come close to a hot steamy shower but for some people the added moisture they can get with a higher setting will help with nasal congestion caused by the common cold.
So if you catch a cold...and more moisture helps with the congestion (that hot shower or using a room humidifier) then yes, increasing the humidifier setting would likely help. So when you catch that cold...you can change the setting if you wish to see how your nose wants to react. This humidity thing is something that there is no right or wrong way to go as it all depends on the individual's nose and what makes it happy. This pertains to daily normal usage as well as for times when we have colds.
