Day 1 (first day after using CPAP) got about 8 hours sleep. Woke up slight headache, dried out mouth and nose. Drowsy on and off daytime (same as before CPAP). No chance to nap. Fell asleep for few seconds daytime while sitting reading a book out loud to the 4 year old I babysit. Bedtime 10:30 pm exhausted. Set humidifier to 4 (was 3). Fell asleep immediately. Got up once during night to use bathroom, so groggy had trouble figuring out how to disconnect from mask.
Day 2 About 8 hours sleep. Woke up with yucky mouth, slightly congested, headache. Did work/errands, okay until noon when suddenly exhausted and sleepy. Took nap using CPAP, thinking I just have to get used to it. Slept like dead person for 1-1/2 hours (usually nap for 20 min). Slept on left side without moving. Woke up from nap with headache, groggy, left side of face felt squashed, left eye irritated. In brain fog.
Is grogginess due to micro arousals disturbing my sleep? Or is something wrong with CPAP/mask?
Seems crazy that using CPAP, I would need to sleep MORE than pre-CPAP. (Pre-CPAP ESS score was 20/24, needed one or two 20 min naps a day. Those naps refreshed me.)
Have follow up appt. with sleep Dr. on Wed.
Should I continue using CPAP until then?
I'm thinking: wear CPAP at night, but not for daytime naps.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Dry mouth = open mouth = losing therapy air.
Yes often your body will demand more of that wonderful effective new sleep for a few weeks while it does some major repair jobs now that it has abundant energy flooding in.
A complete sleep cycle is usually 90 minutes
Never sleep again without your mask. Your body will hate you for it if you do. There is no benefit in sleep where you get choked and lose O2.

What was your AHI during your sleep study? What pressure are you using?
Don't expect too much in the first few days - took me over 30 days to get stable and find the right mask etc.
Have you tried reading the results from your machine's display or using sleepyhead. Tough to tell how you're doing without.
Make sense?

Julie - Thank you no I've only tried the mask I have. Will talk to my sleep dr. about trying other masks.
BlackSpinner Thank you.
englandsf Thank you. I put more info in my sig file. I have only mild OSA, thus my dx of UARS. How do I read results from machine display or w sleepyhead?

You can find information on SleepyHead software in my signature line.
To see the information on the machine's LCD screen you need to probably turn on a little setting in the clinical setup menu for it to allow the patient to view the information.
Go here and request the provider manual for your machine and it explains how to make that change and see the data the LCD offers.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Get the manual...a lot of other stuff is explained in there.
Information on how to request the manual via email is down near the bottom of the page linked to above.
The short version with pictures is available here and there is a little video you might find useful
http://www.apneaboard.com/pr-system-one ... structions
Though the information available on the LCD screen is severely limited...the software offers a lot more.
On the LCD screen you only get AHI and % of time in large leak (if any) and Periodic Breathing (if any) ...all this explained in the manual.
I don't bother with the LCD data myself as I prefer more detailed data that the software shows.
