Turning Red

Post by OldDirtyDoggy » Thu Sep 04, 2014 9:12 pm

I have been on CPAP for about 40 days and all is well but I have noticed that I am frequently red faced during the day. I am a heart patient w two stents and I take aspirin,BP meds and cholesterol meds,I have been taking these for about five years. The only new factor is CPAP............is it possible that the increased oxygen levels are causing the redness? Has anyone ever heard of this? Someone told me that you should never have more than five hours of therapy a night-thoughts?

Check with your doctor.
However cpap therapy can change the way your body handles meds - so check with your doctor.

That someone is an idiot. If you sleep use your cpap. Choking is not good for the body, healthy sleep is.

The five hour bit is nonsense. Never sleep without CPAP if you can avoid it. Sleeping without CPAP is sort of like smoking a cigarette. 3 hours of apnea a night is not as bad as 8 hours without, but it's still bad. Sort of like smoking 3 cigarettes a day instead of 8.

Ask the doctor about the redness. Your body adapts to apnea and may be out of kilter for a while when you stop being strangled for long periods every night. There can be a short period of readjustment, but you may also find you need to adjust your other meds as well. Maybe you'll need less of your other meds when you do CPAP. For instance, BP often goes down with CPAP.
