3d printed cpap mask

My thought is that we need a way to profile our noses then match that profile with the best size and shape of pillow. It seems a pillow centric game though. Not sure how to do it for nasal or full face.

Has your son looked into sharing his design?

I can't speak for every city but I know here in Toronto, in our public library, we have these 3D machines and in order to use them, you pay a small fee. I can't recall exActly what it is offhand but its very little but you become licensed, of sorts and then you can use it whenever you like.

There are all sorts of patterns you can look up online, or at the library, so you can then download it, and use it in the printer to print out what you like. Admittedly, of the patterns i have looked at, nothing has really struck me BUT THIS IS BRILLIANT...............your son should look into sharing it so others can download it and look into whether or not he needs to apply for his own patent or not.

I know I would be interested if he did upload the pattern.
I will look around for the Toronto library patterns but i imagine any big city has such a printer people can use as i have mentioned and if he is an industrial designer, not only am I jealous as that was the ONE thing i ideally wished in hindsight I had done but he will know about these patterns at the libraries, etc.

I will post it back when i look it up again...

I just think that is BRILLIANT....I love it..............being your son,he can tweak the pattern for you....its soooo cool i love it

I love the notion of being able to order a mask that is created to suit my face + nose. This truly is the weak link in the entire enterprise of cpap therapy.

Libraries are getting 3D printers!?! Man, I've been woefully ignorant of this new technology... but then I have a hard time keeping my regular 2D printer inked and running, let alone getting it to work over my network. If you've got the money for a custom mask this could be a great invention. For FFMs, the cushions would certainly not be printable, so what are the legal issues around making a custom frame to hold/accept, say, a ResMed Quattro FX or Mirage standard cushion?

So what you have is, basically, a Swift FX headgear with Breeze Pillows because you've made a new pillow holder for the hose. Great thinking.

I would consider it fair game, and a service to mankind!!

I think the potential for this more nuanced than just revivifying some out-of-print gear. The notion of a custom-designed mask/pillow made-to-fit is ... breathtaking relief.

I am a veteran cpap user, for the last 10 years i have been using the Breeze headgear, this is an improvement to the nasal masks, but after so long time, i began looking for something more comfortable, the Breeze is big, i can't read a book or watch TV and fall asleep and when traveling it is big and difficult to package.
Then came Swift FX, it seems to be a great improvement, small, soft and simple.
I ordered one and very fast found the I can't use it for some reasons:
1 -its mail advantage is also a disadvantage: the softness, sleeping on the side presses the mask and obstruct it
2 - the angle of nose pillows are fixed and cannot adjust it exactly to your nose (in the Breeze you can rotate the and change the angle)
3 - The silicon straps are to close to your face and rubs the face (they provide soft cloth wraps but this is not enough in a hot night)
some days ago i sat with my son, that is an industrial designer and explained the problem, after a half day we came with a small mask the compiles the good of each mask,(and tailor-made to my nose ) he printed it on his 3d printed

Definitely that 3d modeling represents a world of options for those who convert design into our passion, the fact of being able to solve a problem with a feasible and fast solution is something incomparable. And it is as the friend says about shoes, we can not assume that we are all equal when there are so many physical varieties in each human being. Excellent that you have been able to solve through an impression of 3d model

The cool thing about 3d printing cpap masks, the PATIENT can be in control,
instead of at the mercy of regulators and other lowlifes.
