night time bathroom breaks

Post by JMyers » Sat Aug 09, 2014 11:01 am

Do you turn off your machine or just unhook the hose? Not sure what I should be doing as when I unhook the hose I get a large leak warning.

I turn off the machine and unhook the hose at the connector so I can leave the mask on... then either turn machine back on after reconnecting, or if I'm so tired I forget to turn back on the machine will turn on by itself.

I just unattach the hose and leave the mask on. I have "quick connects" from cpap.com on both ends of the hose. I have the machine set to "Auto off". I just get up, come back and hook and it comes on with Auto on". I have a PR System One and have the warning turned off so no sound. Just a couple of beeps when it goes off.

Since it is no trouble I turn my machine off. You can see on the software how many times you got up that way.

you should do whatever you like. you can tap the knob to tell the machine to turn off if you don't like seeing the leak.

Personally, I go the route of pushing the button to turn the unit off, remove my headgear, do what I need, then put everything back on. My main mask is a nasal pillow, and is simple off/on, which helps, I suppose. I use SleepyHead, so when I check my graphs, and I see events, I also see a break of several minutes, which lets me know WHY the events likely happened.
But this is how *I* do it. YMMV.

I can't really answer this question since I have literally not awoken once to use the bathroom in the two months since I started CPAP. In comparing notes with a friend who started a few months before I did he experienced the same effect. From 1-2 trips per night to none beginning on the first night I used CPAP. This will probably change in time, but so far it's been 100% consistent.

I always unplug the hose and take off the mask.

Reseating the mask is a good way to prevent leaks.
