Newbie - haven't gotten my CPAP yet

Post by Ogeo » Tue Aug 05, 2014 5:59 pm

Hi Everyone. I just wanted to say THANKS for all the good info on this site. I have been having problem breathing and the doctor was looking for possible causes. One of the things he ordered was a sleep study. Neither my husband or I had any idea that it would come back saying I have moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I was lucky to get called back by the sleep study people to schedule my CPAP Titration before I had even heard from the results from my doctor. It seems that the Sleep Study people were so booked in advanced that they hired a person to help out. I was able to get back in for the Titration within a week otherwise it would have been 3 months before I could have it done.

In the meantime, I got on the computer and started doing research and found your site. I got a copy of the Sleep Study Results from the doctor's office, I called my insurance today to find out what they cover and how often, and now have a sample Rx Script to take to my doctor so I can get the equipment that will best help me. At the end of my Titration study, they had me fill out a form which listed several DME suppliers and I could chose the one I wanted. I knew from your site NOT to check one until I investigated which brands they carry. My insurance was also very helpful in giving me names and phone numbers of other DME suppliers that are contracted with my insurance. Without your site, I would not have known enough to wait until I'm more knowledgeable before choosing my DME.

While I wait for the results of the Titration study, I am going to call all the DME's and find out what they carry. I am thinking about ResMed S9 Auto. I saw a post about not getting the Elite or Escape but they didn't say why they didn't like them. Anyone know? I think I want a heated humidifier since I live where we can get a lot of snow and our house can get pretty cold with wood heat. (No direct heat in the bedroom). Any other suggestions?

Hubby's equipment: PR System One REMstar Auto A-Flex model 560P. Doctor's orders left it open 5-20. We changed it to 8-20 after a couple nights. Start Date was 1/30/15. Oh, mask is the new nasal pico.

The Escape does not give you any data to check on your Therapy.

I wish you well

Do you mean to tell us... that you're doing everything the way we always tell newbies they should've done after it's too late? EXCELLENT.

The S9 Elite is good if you don't need variable pressure.

Thanks. I'm trying anyway. After I get my machine, I'm sure I will have many more questions. Going to check out a couple of the DME's tomorrow.
