Re: hot air in mask
Which machine do you use? It is possible to turn off the heated humidifier.

Remstar pro cflex, humidifier is off, using ffm am a mouth breather. Thinking mite try a blue ice next to air intake. Looking for something simple, but I guess from ready other post am kind of _ucked????
Re: hot air in mask
Don't know where you are located, but, you could try having the air intake of the machine by an open window to draw in cooler(?) air. The "hot air" from your breathing should be exhausting the mask. If this...along with what you have tried doesn't work...you'r SOL.

Re: hot air in mask
Are you sure the vents on your mask are not blocked? Are you sure your pressure is as high as it needs to be? What is your AHI with the machine? The air should not be hot if you have the humidifier turned off. That is a question for your DME.

Re: hot air in mask
West Texas, hot here, vents air from front mask so dont think blocked, machine is auto 13 2 15 on pressure, they turned it up to start at 10 so that helped a bit, ahi is 20 2 30 most nites, when I breath out it gets hot from my breath and then just keeps heat. Last ahi was 4 and had it on for about 4 hrs straight. Leak was down too. Normally around 40 on leaks.going to stick with ice cubes and add a blue ice pack on a plate rt by air intake hope will last longer. Can't believe they don't have a cold air option on this dumb machine.
Re: hot air in mask
FFM masks are just hot for some people - I had the same problem and dealt with my nasal congestion so that I can now use nasal pillows - no hot air blowing back at all.

Re: hot air in mask
Have you tried passover mode? This is with the humidifier off, just letting the air 'pass over' the water & pick up some moisture that way. This method only works if you need minimal humidity. In your case, I would add the ice cubes too. This might be enough to give you cool air, but remember you won't get much, if any moisture.

Re: hot air in mask
Tested the ice cube thing, it drops the humidity a lot and made me dry and uncomfortable.

as long as you're not using the heated humidifier, try wrapping the hose in icepacks.kolsen0767 wrote:Passover is still hot the new mask mirage quattro and ice cubes work best yet, I do put nasal gel up nose every nite. (I don't know if it'll work, but it might... let me know if you try it )

Re: hot air in mask
Different FFM have different airflow inside the mask. My current mask the F&P 432 has a lot of air movement over my face in it. So much so that many times on a hot morning, after I take the mask off my face starts to get sweaty since there is no longer any air flow on it anymore.
One mask I used in the past a Comfortfull 2, has a lot less airflow in the mask over the face and I tend to get hot using that mask.

Re: hot air in mask
The ice pack didn't work! Ice cubes worked for two hours like they have been then got hot and repacked tray and got my four hour min. The ice around line may try a small 6 pack cooler and drill holes on both sides and run hose thru it and ice around it. That is going to be more bs than this thing is helping. My sleep test was like 114 or 117 ahi but I was in a bad wreck and dont sleep good from pain anyways. Have not noticed any help just wake up after 4 hour min and get better sleep after this torture device is off. Am more sleepy during day now than before using the pos. I have plenty of questions for sleep Dr on 14th about no cold air guess I am only hot blooded S_B ever to need cold air. Sorry just pissed. Thanks again for suggestions.
Re: hot air in mask
Dropping the temp will substantially reduce the humidity of the air and can cause extreme dryness of the nose and sinuses. I found it's just not worth using ice or cooling the hose.

Re: hot air in mask
Are you sleeping with a fan blowing on you? I know West Texas is really hot this time of year, but in addition to the ice/cooler method to cool your hose, maybe a fan will help? Just thought I'd offer this suggestion. Also with your AHI that high its actually dangerous to sleep without your CPAP therapy. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but its true. Also if you are just wearing it for the 4 hour minimum, you won't begin to see any benefit of therapy.kolsen0767 wrote:The ice pack didn't work! If the FFM is that hard to wear, you need to begin exploring other options. Maybe another type of mask with a chinstrap & possibly mouth taping. I know that sounds extreme, but its important to treat an AHI that high aggressively with consistent therapy. There are also hybrid masks, 1/2 covering the mouth, 1/2 nasal pillows. Look up the Inomed Hybrid mask on cpap.com. this mask might get rid of the 'hot air' problem.
Just thoughts, but you really need to begin exploring all options, Obstructive Sleep Apnea can kill. Untreated it can cause heart disease, stroke, diabetes & vascular disorders, just to name a few of its ugly side effects.
I'm sorry this is so hard for you, but if that mask doesn't work, you need to look for more options. Sleeping without CPAP really isn't an option anymore, unless you want to risk the health issues that come with untreated OSA.
