What happened to Machine Information on posts?

Post by library lady » Sat Aug 02, 2014 5:30 pm

Anyone know why machine/mask info is not showing up at the bottom of our posts??

That's really odd. They were there and now are gone.
Perhaps something happened during the recent board outage.

Just a thought.

I've been learning how to set up a phpBB forum (for my professional community) during the past month. What a steep learning curve! I don't know exactly why our equipment lists are not showing right now, but I can tell you that the strangest little bugs can occur without any apparent reason, and a whole site can come crashing down with a single typo! There are about a billion settings backstage of a phpbb forum, and I'm really appreciating how long it can take to find and repair a glitch like this. Whew! I'm sure things will be back online before too long.

Forum software gremlins are likely responsible for the missing equipment information. This has happened in the past and eventually it will get fixed. If we had a forum outage recently then it is likely tied to the outage. That has also happened in the past.
Slightly annoying but we can manage.

I do the same thing with a punbb forum... same kinda pile of whirling arcane equipment all groaning and blowing steam as phpbb..

now, if you REALLY want to see weirdness... check out omnibus-gitlab...

one package that's got nginx, postgresql, redis, sidekiq and unicorn all wedged into it, along with ruby on rails, and chef. you don't configure it so much as try and convince it to do what you want it to... every time I touch it I'm reminded of some old timey industrial equipment with a LOT of whirling moving parts and no safety guards.

Get OSCAR

Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

This is most likely not a typical PHPBB setting as the equipment part of the system is most likely an add on to the stock system. When making changes to the system, you should have a log that you maintain that reminds you what changes you have made so that you can easily undo it if you run into a problem. Good server backups allow you to restore to a known working point as well.

Systems Analyst who has managed, built and moderated lots of forum software systems for a very long time though not a PHPBB system for a while.
