Tired wife of newbi- how do we stop the whale noise!

Post by Suze » Sat Jul 19, 2014 12:41 am

My husband has a rental machine. He bought a mask. The last two nights the machine has been making a noise kinda like a whale. Or a ships light horn. He washed it out according to the instruction. Still noisy. Any fast tips?

Suze, what is the make and model of the machine?

And of the mask. And what exactly did he wash out?

Are you sure it's not the mask leaking.?

Sit next to him with a baseball bat. Every time you hear that noise, whack the crap outta him with the bat. That'll fix it.

Sheriff made me almost blow juice out my nose...

If it's a high pitch whistle/whine, I would think its a leak. O

Why do I think this poster is not coming back (like so many others recently who write one note - always 'desperate', watch us all do our thing and then go (if they do) to some other forum, etc?

Julie, maybe the OP actually found the solution, or found a way to get to sleep despite the noise. Given that her husband washed the mask, I would wonder if there was still a little moisture in the vent holes causing a whistle. Alternatively, maybe third time was the charm and the whale had beached itself and was no longer breathing? A single post doesn't make a troll in every case. On the other hand, an unexpected noise from a cpap machine can make one desperate, especially in the middle of the night, which would explain why she went off to another site.

Never said 'troll', just a bit frustrated about giving suggestions that OPs don't come back to acknowledge.

Maybe she went back to bed for a few more hours of sleep ... and will come back later... or she is waiting for hubby to give her the information she needs to post the equipment.

The OP just registered yesterday and submitted her first post late last night -- as of right now (Saturday morning) it's been less than 24 hours.
I'm trying to imagine joining a forum and posting my first request for help and being responded to with comments like these.

For the record I don't mind people stopping by once and then leaving... especially if they get the help they needed. Regarding the noise problem: Providing it isn't a mask or machine issue, then one can try a white noise generator. If that's too big a deal then here's something I use for the neighbor's noisy outdoor parties on the weekend: Type amazon ear plugs into any internet browser and you'll see dozens of items. I like Mac's silicone ear plugs. You can use each set for 4-5 nights if you keep your ears and fingers clean when inserting. Once you are over the hump you can put them in looser and looser every night so you can determine if your brain has 'dialled out the noise'. That worked for my wife. Worth a shot.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I was also thinking about the surface that the machine sits on. Can make a HUGE difference in the sound output from the machine.

+924 million

If I felt desperate and had questions, I'd post on every forum I could find in the hopes of someone having an answer that would work for me. If she doesn't come back, I'd just assume she found her answer. Not everyone who posts and doesn't come back is a troll. Maybe she has other things to do (like having a life) which is why she doesn't return.

She just posted 7 hours before your post...some people don't sit on their computer waiting for an answer
