Greetings- a little overwhelmed

Post by Tailgate » Fri Jul 18, 2014 8:52 am

Thought I'd introduce myself quickly and get out of the way so I can learn. Just discovered this forum and already can tell there are a lot of helpful folks here.

Here's just a little background:

62 year old male
retired first of the year from high stress job
quit smoking almost a year ago
walk 3 miles a day
lost 15 pounds (still working on it)
I thought it would be 'goodbye tension, hello pension', but my BP went through the roof
Doc put me through all the paces- heart study, etc... all is good except sleep study, moderate OSA

Got my machine Monday.. Airfit P10 pillows, pressure 6 min to 14 max set on auto
Monday night went well- DW loved the quiet bedroom without the snoring bouncing off the walls
Last night not so well, but still feeling better than without the machine
Last night had sinus issues, still wore mask for 6 hours.. a little mouth breathing going on, really clogged up this morning

Test results were 16.7 and I don't know how to read the rest of the report, so I don't know what is important to note.

Thanks in advance for all the info I will be absorbing about this phase of my life... cheers and happy Friday!

Welcome to the group.
You have an excellent machine and more importantly, its a full data machine.

Now you need to get the software so you can follow you therapy,
SleepyHead or Encore will do the job.
I prefer Encore Pro but many others prefer SleepyHead.
They are both without cost to you.
Just post a note asking how to get them, and you'll get a response and directions. Do include what computer you will be using and what operating system. The software you get will be affected by that ibformation,

A couple of things you should do if you haven't already done them.
1. Get a copy of your sleep study / titration study. Lots of important info there.
2. Get a copy of your prescription. You'll need that for all sorts of things especially if you want to order anything online.

Welcome. Had the same issues and got stuck with full face mask, which I hated. I now use the P10 on a ResMed Autoset with humidifier - similar set up to yours...

Try a rigorous sinus washing campaign (3x per day) using NeilMed bottle or Sinugator. 8 oz distilled water, on saline packet and one tablespoon Alkolol liquid. If you have it, use a cortico steroid (flonase etc) spray every morning. Keep humidity low on your CPAP machine (sub half way) and try for a couple of nights.

Welcome to the forum.

Your chosen machine in your equipment profile doesn't match up with your chosen humidifier.
To avoid later confusion and to help you better in the future let's figure out exactly which model machine you have.
The machine you have chosen is model 550. That model isn't normally dispensed at DMEs now but wouldn't be impossible. It won't work at all with the humidifier you have chosen.
Look on the bottom of the blower unit (be sure to remove water chamber) for a 3 digit model number. May have DS or REF in front of the 3 digits.
If it says 550 then you have the correct machine chosen and all you need to do is change the humidifier selection to the PR System One Heated Humidifier.

If it says 560 (this is the latest series in that model) then your correct machine choice would be PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP and the humidifier choice would be PR System One 60 Series Heated tube humidifier with heated tube (even if you don't have a heated hose right now because the heated hose is optional).

Do you normally have sinus/nasal congestion issues or is this new to you that just started with cpap?

thanks for all the quick replies. My machine has 560P on the bottom... I'll change the descrip in the profile. I do have mild sinus/allergies issues. I need to start using the Neti pot on a regular basis. That has always been a big help.
If I download the Sleepyhead software (Mac), will my accessing the data create any problems for the Doc or the DME? Both have set followups that I'm supposed to bring the SD card in for. I would be very interested in being able to see if my OSA number changes significantly.

nasal congestion and headache can be due to the humidity level being too high or low...mine was because I had it set too high, originally...so I do great at 2. Last few nights were so humid I turned humidifier heater off, this morning I have a headache. May or may not be related.
I have the same unit, welcome and enjoy. *lol*

You can use the SleepyHead software and your DME or doctor won't have anyway to tell that you did unless you tell them. The software does nothing to the contents of the SD card. Even if you accidentally did something to the SD card your PR S1 machine stores everything a DME or doc would need on its internal memory and will put it right back on a SD card.
