Resmed H5i Repair Heated tube Error

Post by Tommy D » Sun Dec 22, 2013 11:01 am

http://thecelticexican.tumblr.com/image/70797610722I have Resmed S9 with an H5i Heated Humidifier. A few Months back i started getting a heating tube error. I was told i needed to buy a replacement tube which was $75. It was pricey but i figured i needed it. Shortly after, i started to receive the same Error again. It wasn't the tube, it was the 3 pin connector on the unit. Resmed says i am out of warranty so i will have to buy a new one, that's a minimum of $150 depending on what site you look at. So i Am endeavoring to fix it my self. It turns out the problem is the 3 pogo Pins that make contact with the hose contacts. The middle pin has a worn out spring. Does anyone know how i might acquire a replacement connector or does anyone have an old H5i that they will sell me. It doesn't have to work, i Just need the one part.

If you check with secondwindcpap.com you will find H5i humidifiers for $90. This may be your best bet.

I would go for replacing the entire humidifier; and keeping the old one for parts.
Easy-peasy!
I wonder how the spring wore out. Do you remove the hose frequently for cleaning? (causing stress on the coupling)
I have never cleaned the year-old one I have, but I may if it looks spotty or smells weird--or I could use the spare that Medicare just bought me.
Then I could do like the Sheriff and cut up the old one for a cord minder.
Edit: Yikes! the Climateline heated hose is ON SALE!

I have a used S9 humidifier...used about a week. Bought it local craigslist from someone who bailed on cpap therapy and couldn't return the humidifier.
Asking only what I paid for it...$60 plus shipping. Looks brand new.

I'll vouch for Pugsy; she does not do this for the money; she's really an angel--just not a rich one.

Also just had one of my pins stop working on my H5i with the same replace tube error... in my case its the first pin, not the middle as TommyD had, but otherwise same fault, spring in pin has failed..not a very strong design..
In my case I take my unit with me when I travel, so the hose has been removed/connected a few times, maybe a 6-7 times a year, had it for just on 3 years, so its been uncoupled and reconnected less then a hundred times, nothing you would consider excessive.

Did anyone find out if this part was available by itself? I'm in Australia and a new unit is i$345 ($325US). Apparently I can send it away to be repaired, but they won't quote and there's a minimum service fee, which is very likely going to be at least $100, so with postage etc its likely to be half the cost of a new one here :roll - Might as well order a new one from the states at that price

Sounds like a poorly made product, don't suppose they are outsourced by GM switch division. Due to their business plan I'd never buy their products, but this is a problem they know about and should correct. Jim
