OT Picking yourself up.......

Post by carbonman » Sun Jun 29, 2014 5:58 pm

and getting on with it.

Seems like that is all I have been doing the past couple of years.
6wks ago, I fractured my scapula. Caught a lip on the pavement with a wet tire,
going too fast.....road kill.
.....so, I did what I always do.....
survey for unmovable body parts.....everything ok except my shoulder...
pulled myself up. Got my bike out of the street.
There just happened to be a bus bench right there....how nice.

....long story.......I was pretty lucky.
If I had not had my helmet on, I would not be writing this.
Bone fractured just below the socket....no surgery.
Ortho doc said there is not much to do but heal.
That bone is surrounded by big muscle and it just heals.

So, I got about the business of healing.
When I saw him again at 5wks, he said,
" You're much farther along than I would have expected,
for some one your age."

So, life goes on.
Feel the pain....do it anyway.
We get knocked down, we pick ourselves up,
and go on.

It was a beautiful, sunny morning.
I stopped along the way to enjoy.
I did a new loop from the new house.
Goes down to Bear Ck and up to Green mt.

Bear Ck.

Bear Ck trail takes you up and over Carbon Mt.

From the top of Carbon Mt., is the view of the Rooney Valley.
Green Mt. to the north, Bear Ck reservoir, Red Rocks Theater and Bandimere Speeway.

...and to the east, Denver.

No matter what it is, find the strength to pick yourself up.....
and get on with it.

I'll see you on the road.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

Thanks for the testimony--it really is an important message for all of us! So glad you're back on the road. It speaks volumes about your spirit.

Perfect day for me to read this. Thank you! I especially loved the first picture of Bear Creek. Moving water is one of my things...

Well Carbonman,

I applaud your resilience. You have repeatedly gotten back on the bike and ridden in spite of some pain, internal and external. Thank you so much for the lovely photos. It is wonderful to see the countryside through your eyes again. Your perspective on things speaks volumes.

I wish you the very best and happy riding.

Karen

I started running and working out at the begin of May. That is until I fell off a flower bed and sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago. Note the flower bed is 18 inches high. Weeding is dangerous to your health LOL. It is just finally healing and I need to psyche my self up to start running again and working out.

Thank you C'man for the help because I have been finding excuses not to bother.
