Blood pressure
Blood pressure
I have been on BP meds for 7 years. Since I started bipap therapy 6 months ago my blood pressure has been much lower!
Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Blood pressure
Your heart is not being stressed by nearly dieing many times at night. No more stress at night, no more racing heart = lower blood pressure for many people.

Re: Blood pressure
Yes, I experienced having my blood pressure creep up before cpap, and then having it come back down afterwards. Good feeling, that. You feel like you're actually becoming more healthy *smile*. How often do you see that happen so quickly?
Edit: I should add that I'm also doing more aerobic exercise, which most likely adds to that effect. But being since being on cpap, I've had more energy for exercise, so it all adds up *smile*.

Re: Blood pressure
High blood pressure is a well known symptom of OSA.

Re: Blood pressure
Mine has gone down, measurably with time, from 8 yrs on xpap.
On my most recent Dr's visit, my doc said that we might try med free if I wanted, but I elected to stay on minor med for now. (No side effects, and there is hypertension in my family). If it drops farther, as I suspect it will, I'll give med free a go.
BTW, you might also find that your blood test values on such things as cholesterol, lipids, CRP, glucose and a bunch of other things either completely normalize, or at least become more favorable.

I was on 20 MG of vasotec twice a day and now I'm only taking 5 MG twice a day and hoping to get off of it completely.

Re: Blood pressure
Seeing cardiologist tomorrow for a 2nd opinion on my meds after having the experience from h-ll with coreg, a beta blocker. If she decides one is needed, I am hoping that when my pap therapy is finally stabilized that, this won't be permanent.
I find the other posts in this thread extremely encouraging and thank you for posting your experiences.

Re: Blood pressure
Believe it or not, I've had the exact opposite symptoms. About two months after starting to use CPAP my blood pressure actually started to increase.
I'm now on meds (I was not before) and can only hope further use of CPAP will cause my BP to decrease.

Re: Blood pressure
My BP had been on the high side of normal and with CPAP (and with getting my chronic pain under better control) I too have seen a noticeable decrease.

Re: Blood pressure
I was first diagnosed with high BP when I was 21. I am now 68. I've been on meds for about 40 years. Some work, some don't, and some have bad side effects.
About three years ago I developed atrial fibrillation. I had a sleep study after that. The results were that l did have OSA.
So I have been on bipap religiously for about two years .
Honestly, I can't tell the difference in my BP of the quality of my sleep. In my opinion I've always slept well.
The electophysiologist did cure my atrial fibrillation for now with an RF catheter ablation.

Re: Blood pressure
My BP was all the place, Dr put me on meds, psi lined out, started CPAP & BP lowered more, off BP meds now for about 2 years now.
