Tomorrow, make every effort to respect, honor, and never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifices for us. On the other hand, please leave out the hate for those who might not agree with many of us.
There's more than enough meanness and spite in this world. Praise the Lord and keep the ugliness OUT of this wonderful forum.
Tonight, start your CPAP machines and then sleep tight in the knowledge that in the last 225 years there has always been discord in the nation - we have a Bill of Rights that protects civil disagreement - but that those who protect will always be there for us.
God bless.

Whatever measure we enjoy freedom and liberty was paid for by generations of men and women paying their last full measure to make this world a better place. Freedom is not free!

My son's birthday is May 27th. I guess Memorial Day, my son's b'day, and a three-day weekend (when I was working) got all mixed in together. This year I'll give a little more thought to this three-day weekend and its true meaning.

Thank you Sludge for starting this thread.
Memorial Day is the day that we remember, and honor the fallen, to whom we owe so much.
It's fine to go to the beach, or have that bbq; just so long as we remember, and honor.

I remember something I once read...
The home of the free BECAUSE of the BRAVE!!!
I'll pass the thought on to everyone I see tomorrow. There are lots of veterans at the rehab where I go daily to see my mother-in-law. I will be privileged to shake hands with some of these brave men & women who sacrificed so much.

In Australia on April 25th we have ANZAC day. It was originally started to remember the Gallipoli landing during WW1. It now encompasses remembrance for all wars and conflicts, the supreme sacrifice and the brave people that survived them. We have a saying "Lest We Forget" which I think I is very apt for your memorial day.

Memorial Day weekend should be about our honored military, but so many people think about their time off of work.
This Memorial Day weekend has become extra special for me as our son, our adopted foster child son who has been a challenge to us for 14 years -- Graduated High School on Saturday and has chosen his path in life.
He has enlisted in the Army and ships out for Basic in August.
We couldn't be more proud. A little scared and nervous obviously, but so proud.

Old soldiers do eventually die, so it's important to listen to their stories while they can still share.
I would like to take this time to plug a book by my friend and colleague, Jerry Penry.
http://www.amazon.com/Sunrise-Serenade- ... 554&sr=1-1
Jerry researched the story of the crew members of the Sunrise Serenade,
a B-17 bomber shot down in World War 2. He interviewed survivors, family, and brothers in arms.

ems:
How ironic. When I was a kid and until 1971, THE Memorial Day was my birthday (5/30). Until the day my parents took me aside, I regularly boasted to my buddies that I never had to go to school on my birthday. My father and mother told me that Memorial Day was certainly NOT about me. Instead, they lectured their eldest child that the holiday was about those whose efforts had made all my opportunities and freedoms possible.
God bless America and America bless God.
