Airfit & SD card

Post by Bonnie » Sat May 03, 2014 3:23 pm

I got the Airfit mask 2 weeks ago and am pretty happy with it. The only downside I see is the inability to loosen or tighten the back strap. However it looks like an easy lab ratting fix when it stretches out too much. Prior to using it the first night I downloaded data off the SD card in order to get a fresh start with the new mask. When I went to insert it into the machine I could not get past the message about not reading the card and please remove and try again. I tried many times and only once did it say it was "reading the card". Unfortunately it stayed at that and never actually read it. My question would be is it the card or the machine? If I went to an electronics store and picked up an ordinary SD card would that work or do I need a specific card for the S9?

I appreciate any info I can get.
Thanks!

"Cold reset" the machine; (unplug, count to 20, plug it back in again)

My SD card became corrupted once. It could not be read or reformatted on my computer. I picked up a new card at Target. It works fine.

When you say insert into the machine I assume you mean the S9? Is that correct?

What operating system is being used on the computer that contains whatever software you are using for the SD?
Is it a Mac or a Windows 8.xx system?

What is the message that you get....is it "invalid card" message?

Hi Pugsy,
Yes, the S9. I have a tendency to call it a machine rather than cpap. I'm using my old laptop, which I pretty much only use for reading the SD card for my cpap. I have both a smart phone and Samsung tablet, have not checked on their capabilities for reading the card. The operating system on my computer is Vista (Windows 8 on the tablet). I picked up a new card last night and inserted it into the cpap with no problems. This morning I put it in the computer and no data. I'm using Sleepyhead. The message I was getting with the Resmed card is: "Attention. Read only card. Please remove, unlock and reinsert SD card." I've had this message occasionally in the past and when I removed it and reinserted the "Please wait. Reading SD card."came up and data was always loaded the next morning. I checked the SD card on the computer and saw data in the folders and don't know why it didn't export to Sleepyhead. Now I'm wondering if I needed to format the SD card? Going from the Swift FX to this incredibly wonderful Airfit I really wanted to see the leak numbers. On a side note I didn't realize the Airfit has 2 models. I have the pillows, and when I went to research how people here liked the Airfit I was pretty confused as to what people were saying in posts. Took a while before my pea brain kicked in and I discovered there were 2 models. I do love this mask. And if I never get to see my leak rates I'm still happy. I feel fine after using it for two weeks.

This means the SD card has been locked in "read only" mode and needs to be unlocked. Lock or unlock is accomplished by sliding that little plastic switch on the SD card. Sometimes the SD card can be "locked in read only mode" by accident but normally it takes direct effort.

"Invalid SD card" message with the "do you want to erase" prompt comes when the computer (or someone) has inadvertently changed something on the SD card. The S9 machine expects the SD card contents to be is a particular way and any change will cause the S9 to spit it out.
Windows 8.xxx and Mac computers seem to sometimes put a little tiny file on the SD card but the S9 detects something out of the norm and will spit it out with the "invalid SD card" message

Of course it's always possible that the SD card simply has a bad sector or something.

I just unlocked it and inserted it. It immediately when to "reading the SD card". Unfortunately it stayed like the for 15 minutes until I took it out. Guess I'm not going to know leak numbers. Thanks for your help!

Get a new SD card. It should take but a few seconds for the S9 to read the SD card. It's not impossible for the SD card to be faulty.
Cheap generic SD card will work. Doesn't have to be ResMed brand name.
Bear in mind the SD card MUST be in the S9 during the night to get those leak graphs you want (along with the other detailed graphs).
Otherwise you still have the data that is on the S9's LCD display but it must be looked at before 12 Noon per the S9's clock because the daily data is reset at Noon when a new reporting date is started.

I did get a new card on Saturday, that's when I used it and had no data Sunday morning in Sleepyhead. I reinserted it last night but haven't checked it yet today, needed to get a few errands done before work.
Thanks, Pugsy, you've been a big help.

Make sure Sleep Quality is set to "On" and not "Usage" in the clinical setup menu.
For SleepyHead to get anything at all the card must be in the machine all night and Sleep Quality must be "On".

Do you have ResScan available to see what it says for data? It doesn't need all the files that SleepyHead needs to at least give summary usage data.

Also...when using SleepyHead make sure to create a new location and point to root drive only..if you go to the SD card itself you have gone too far...SleepyHead will tell you "no data" if you go too far because it doesn't know where to look except in the root drive (letter assigned to the SD card slot) if you point to looking anywhere else.

Most common causes of "no data" from SleepyHead's standpoint.
1...SleepyHead not being told exactly where to go...often people tell it to go to the SD card itself and that's too far.
2...Sleep Quality set to "usage" and not set to "on"
3...SD card either left out of the machine during the night or not inserted correctly.
4...rare...problem with the S9 writing to the SD card..not impossible but rare.
