A little help on my leak data?

Post by sciflyer » Fri May 02, 2014 7:26 pm

Hi All,

I'm only about 5 weeks into my therapy, and just this week I've found the mask that suits me well (Swift FX), after being given a F&P Simplus Full Face initially, then a F&P Eson nasal mask, then tried a Respironics Comfort Fusion nasal mask (awful).

I've had the best sleep yet in the last few nights.

AHI has been under 3 for last few days (1.9 last night), my best yet.

So I'm pretty stoked with how things are going and this week has been a revelation.

I've felt the best I've felt in recent history.

But I'm wondering if the leaks I'm seeing in Sleepyhead are significant?

I haven't felt any leaks - the mask seems to fit really well, and aside from sore nostrils as they adjust to the nasal pillows, it's really comfortable.

I don't feel like I've been having mouth leaks - no dry mouth at all.

Your leaks look really good.

I don't see anything exciting.
I'll check on your mask to be sure and post an edit.

(Edit)
Just checked and your mask has a built-in leak rate of about 43 for a pressure of 16.
You are well below the large leak rate for your Respironics machine.
The fact that you don't wake up with leaks testifies to them being very normal.

Keep up the good work.

If I had a leak line that looked like that, I would be supremely happy! I don't know what the intentional leak rate is for your mask but 40L is the highest you went, that's really good. You don't say what machine you have, but if you have PR system one 560 you for sure can check your large leak percentage on the LCD screen of the machine. the percentage that you see will tell you how much of the time you spent in large leak territory for the night... my guess is that it won't be a very large number, if any.

EDIT: Oh, I missed the details of your equipment...

This is one of those leaks graphs that SleepyHead makes mountains out of mole hills. When leaks are small the scale gets zoomed in close and those little hills that would be tiny on the Encore verion...look like the rocky mountains here . It is an optical illusion due to the scale at which we are seeing the graphs.

1....Large leak territory is up around 80 to 90 L/min with the Respironics machines. So you are well below that target to avoid.
2....You report sleeping well ...right through those small leaks...that's good.
3.... You report feeling better than you have in a long time.

Leaks are very well managed and I would cross them off the list of things to be concerned about.

You get the Happy Dance...and I get you tell you job well done...keep it up...bumps in the road will come along but nothing you can't sort out.

Good Job..Congratulations.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Great to have it confirmed that everything is going as well as it seems.

And for anyone else like me starting out with nasal pillows, Paw Paw Ointment is working out quite well for the sore nostrils (http://lucaspapaw.com.au/).
