Resmed S9 Escape

Post by lee1 » Thu May 01, 2014 7:59 am

I just got a resmed s9 escape. The pressure was recommended at 6 by my doctor. It has a wifi unit in the back that transmit the data. I was as comfortable as could be expected and slept really well. What are the advantages for pushing to get the s9 Autoset?

What was your AHI last night?
What were your leaks like?
How many of the events were obstructive?
How many of the events were hypopneas?
How many of the events were clear airways?

Is that enough reasons or should I go on?

Definitely go for the S9 AutoSet or the Respironics DS560TS.

The Escape gives no useful data beyond compliance (for the insce. co) so he can't tell you any of that.

Unless you are in Canada, your insurance pays the same for either unit, but the dealer makes a lot more profit on the Escape.

That was my point exactly! Not being able to answer those questions should be more than enough to justify the better machine!

Good luck getting the upgrade. You walked out of the DME's office with a brand new brick, now it's used and they are unlikely to want to swap it for a brand new machine with efficacy data. It will be a fight. I have some tips in my "Help, I'm stuck with a Brick" post at my blog, but nowadays it's a very difficult fight because of how deeply competitive bidding has cut into the DME's profits.

I wanted to add something that comes up from time to time -- with a brick machine like the Escape people sometimes think that their doctors or DME are able to see more treatment data than they can see on their own. Not true. That modem on the back of your machine is only transmitting the number of hours you're using the machine. Your doctor will have no way to evaluate the effectiveness of your current therapy (or to assess whether your pressure needs change over time) because the only thing the machine records is how many hours you've used it.

Patients with additional health problems (like asthma, COPD, etc.)
should ALWAYS be given a full-data machine.
