Re: S9 clicking noise?
I have the same issue with my 2 week old machine. Even when off (but plugged in) it makes that clicking noise all day every 5 seconds. I contacted ResMed and here is there response:
«Do you have your H5i Humidifier attached? I do know that humidifier does have a very low sounding clicking noise. It comes from the capacitors when they are dissipating power. It can do this for up to an hour even after you stopped your therapy. There is a cool down state that last an hour after you finish your therapy each day. Your device will blow at 1 L/m for an hour to prevent moisture build up around the motor. You can separate the humidifier from the CPAP to prevent this from happening. Now if it’s a loud clicking noise I recommend you to bring it to your service provider for evaluation.
Thanks»
Anyways wil contact the place of purchase to see what they suggest.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
No clicking noise here, just a whistle like a pair of doves. As the night goes on the doves get a little louder.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
This is an old thread, but you hear a lot about the reedy whistling during exhale. My S9 does that as well. Since it's during operation I don't hear it too much (I'm sleeping most of the time *smile*), but it would be fine with me if it didn't do that. Don't know if anyone's ever gotten anything from ResMed about this, other than theh reply, "Yes, they do that" *sigh*.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
The complaints in this thread are about some relay clicking sounds that come from the humidifier. What you are talking about is one of two other common complaints. I hope someone from ResMed can go talk to the people at Australian Guild of Master Organbuilders to learn how pipe organs have been dealing with these sorts of problems for centuries since a windchest and the blower box have a few bits that are remarkably similar.RogerSC wrote:This is an old thread, but you hear a lot about the reedy whistling during exhale. Re: S9 clicking noise?
I've put in italics the parts that jumped out at me. I too have an S9 that I got in September. It's started making a clicking noise that continues after the blower is off. Separating the humidifier from the flow generator or pulling the power cable from the back of the unit (or from the wall) will stop it. It's not stopping this noise after an hour. I feel like the question wasn't really answered by ResMed's response. Oh well, I have an appt with my DME on Monday to have the thing checked over. I hope they won't comment that the pressure I was prescribed of 11 doesn't match the machine's current settings....auto 10/15:-)maxou723 wrote:I have the same issue with my 2 week old machine. Well, if they do, I assume that you have sleep data that shows how you improved your AHI (or whatever the reason was that you changed your pressure) as a result of that change.SuperChild wrote: I hope they won't comment that the pressure I was prescribed of 11 doesn't match the machine's current settings....auto 10/15:-)
A little reassurance, my sleep doctor never mentions the changes that I've made in pressure when I see him. He just tells me to keep on doing what I'm doing, since things seem to be going pretty well these days. So there's a good chance that your sleep doctor will just focus on results for you, too.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
My machine sounds as if it is dripping too.
My resmed s9 autopap. Very strange. Only noticeable when the machine is not running.
Has this definitively been identified as a fault by resmed? I presume it is just the humidifier.
Are Resmed replacing the humidifiers that are doing it?

Not to my knowledge...they explain it away with the above communication that it is "normal" and so they don't see a problem.sleepinglass wrote:Are Resmed replacing the humidifiers that are doing it?
Same reasoning with the bird calls on exhale on the S9. They know about the noise but won't do anything about it.
I never noticed the clicking noise when I had my S9 but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. When I get up I don't come right back to the bedroom for quite some time...morning coffee and pet potty breaks and time online....so just never noticed the clicking if it was there.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
That is why I am not a Resmed fan. They are very into making money, doing a really hard sell.
The dripping on my machine is constant, persistent and very annoying, so if I have to stay in the same room, I need to unplug the unit. Which I consider an irritating waste of time and something I would rather, not be forced to have to do.
When it comes to dealing with a problem that has been reported to them, Resmed seem to grow deaf ears & do not want to know, which is a great pity.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
I have heard it on mine. It is a switch.
As the electrical connection turns on and off, metal contacts slam together.
It is harmless, but if it is problematic, complain about it to the manufacturer; and
opt for a machine with quieter switches (if possible), or place the machine so that the sound is not as noticeable.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
I know this is an old thread but I'm adding my 2cents because I think there's power in numbers....I've had my s9 for about a year and a half and my H5i JUST started clicking the other day (maybe I should consider myself lucky that I went this long without the clicking!). My other half asked me what the noise was and got up to investigate. Once he was assured it wasn't the dog into something, we narrowed it down to my machine. If he hadn't of pointed it out, I might not have noticed for days but he hears EVERYTHING. Now it's enough to keep me awake (and now that he knows what it is, he can sleep soundly - sigh)! I emailed Resmed this morning, I'll be curious if they say it's normal because I already know it isn't (if it was normal, I would have heard it a year and a half ago!).
EDIT: I'm SURE I just saw this topic in a more recent posting so if I find it again, I'll duplicate this post there. There's more of us and this noise is not the element heating up - this is a different noise altogether.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
it's not a switch, I just took one of my humidifiers apart, and there's no switches, no relays, nothing in there. just one pcb with a bunch of surface mount components, (and one electrolytic capacitor)... one temperature sensor, a couple LEDs.chunkyfrog wrote:I have heard it on mine. you can see the board in the resmed S5i Service Manual (I think I got it on apneaboad)

Re: S9 clicking noise?
Maybe it's the capacitor?
--or does something heat up and "crinkle" when it cools?
My AutoSet is over 4 years old, with nearly 10,000 hours.
It's probably noisier now than in 2011, but I'm oblivious, as I fall asleep very quickly.

Re: S9 clicking noise?
Yeah, my wife falls asleep in about 5 minutes, don't know how she does it. Takes me about 3 times that long, usually, a little unwinding and relaxing to do. But I use earplugs that tend to deaden sounds enough that I don't hear the machine very much. I used to hear the bird whistle thing, the machine used to do that a lot. But it seems to have stopped for some time now for reasons of its own, so I don't think about it anymore.chunkyfrog wrote:Maybe it's the capacitor?
