How does one backup their daily data files from Encore Pro?

About once a week, I'm used to backing up my Sleepyhead data by simply copying the Sleepyhead data folder in My Documents to a separate portable hard drive - it's so simple I could do it in my sleep. My problem is that I can't seem to figure out where Encore Pro 2.12 is storing it's daily data... it's not in My documents and it doesn't appear to be in the Respironic's folder or anywhere else I can access. I checked the Utilities option but there's nothing useful there. Somewhere I read that you can print the daily reports to PDF files on your computer and save those using the print function, however that seems like overkill. Can someone tell me how and what files they backup on their separate portable hard drives

I view the daily details each day and save the .PDF file that creates to a separate folder.
I do the same thing with the wave data.
Just use the save function. No need to do anything special other than selecting just that day .

The main database is somewhere, but I don't know here either. It has something to do with SQL, I think

Depending on what Operating System you're using........if you have a Windows directory called "Program Files", check in there for the "Microsoft SQL Server" directory.......and in that a variation of "MSSQL" and in it there may be a "Data" directory.

Actually, on the first of each month, I copy my "Program Files" directory (and a few other data directories) to an external USB drive. I've used "CutePDF" to print to disk files my daily reports for years. It makes much smaller .pdf files than the print function in Encore. Like about 1/10th of the size.
Anyway, I then accumulate and sort the files into folders for the months and years.

I'm running Win 7, which I still love a bunch. They'll have to pry Win 7 out of my cold dead fingers.

In an attempt to find the data files for Encore I looked in the C:Program Files folder and also the Program Files (x86) folder plus a few others I found on my C: drive. It's still puzzling where they are going. Next I suppose I'll do a *.* search of the whole C: drive using the date criteria (right after I do another download of my PR's SD card). That'll take forever to run and analyze tho. If I knew Encore's data file's extension type that would help a lot cuz it would filter out a lot.

Regarding cutePDF, I downloaded the cutePDF writer and installed it and then it said I needed another program associated with it ... trying to download that I got tricked into downloading a stupid PC Optimizer program that looked dodgy, so I spent some time getting that off my computer. I'll go back and try and get cutePDF to run later.

I did manage to save a weeks worth of data to PDFs. The include/exclude button on the main patient screen (the one with the blue paper clip icons) doesn't seem to do anything... it'd be nice to just include all the days in the week and save those in bulk to PDF. Not to mention, you also have to save the 'flow graphs' separately. No wonder doctor's are reluctant to go into any significant depth regarding a patient's data. Maybe there's a trick to that. It's all too damned time consuming compared to Sleepyhead - and Respironic's ResScan is not that much better BTW

Thanks, Den - you're the man . That was indeed where those pesky little buggers were hiding. Do you suggest I just back up that whole SQL folder?



Of course if my two year old laptop dies (which they usually do) then I suppose I'll just copy my backup of that SQL folder into that same location, ie. after I reinstall Encore Pro. It's can't be that easy can it Have you ever done that?

One of the things I did some years back was when I did a "new" install on my new computers was to save a copy of the freshly installed "SQL Server" folder to a separate location and also off of my hard drive. This came in handy a couple of years ago when I had a series of errors on my card and lost some data for some nights. Typically, the SQL that Encore uses will only hold about 2 GB of data before it gets full. So, for the last couple of years, I'm saving the previous SQL folder, renaming it and copying in the "clean" one at the beginning of each January 1. In other words, I start each year with a fresh/clean database.

The way I have my file structure organized on my hard drives is that I have very few folders in my Root directory (C:), so on the first of each month, I only have to copy about three folders/directories to my 500 GB external USB drives. One of the folders I copy is the "Program Files" directory (in its entirety). That way, I've got everything in that directory in case something goes wrong with any of the programs.

I may be over-cautious, but having worked with computers for over 45 years, I've learned that Murphy's Laws apply to computers, too. I'd rather spend a few minutes backing up something than spending days to rebuild it.

But, do what you feel comfortable with.
