Reversion?

Post by Sparky lulu » Wed Apr 09, 2014 7:44 am

I had a terrible time adapting to my FF Cpap machine. But, that only lasted about 2 weeks and then I got used to it
I never ever got the kind of sleep that people long for: the kind where you just wake up in the morning and it's like you were asleep for 10 minutes but it was really all night. Instead, I wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, like always.
But, I have been averaging 6-8 hours with the mask.
This week, though, something happened. I started to take the mask off in my sleep. I'd find myself awake and wondering where the mask was. I have no memory of doing this.
And the last two nights have been the worst sleep I've had in ages. Restless, mask off 3 times during the night, waking up to put it back on. According to my sleep monitor device I only slept 3 hours last night, the rest of the night was bouncing around.
Here's the rub: I have been exercising a LOT the last few days. Walking 10K steps a day and yesterday rode my bike around town for 30 miles.
My waking bsg is lower than it has been in years, but I got NO sleep.
Anyone else go through this? Is there a solution?
I just want a night's sleep.....
Thoughts?
Thanks.

Have you lost weight recently? That can change your face enough to make the mask no longer fit properly. Do you follow your progress with software or at least look at the screen to see your AHI in the morning? Have you had a health check recently to look for other possible problems? With so little to go on, it's a bit hard to advise, so if you have any more to add, it might help. Have there been other changes in your life, diet or stress, etc. that could be contributing?

Thanks for these questions.
I've lost a little weight but I check my sleepmapper app every morning and it says that my mask fits 100%. No leaks. My AHI was 2.9 on the night I wrote that. It's only been above 5 once in the past 4 months. I had a health check and everything is in order. The only change is that I have been exercising a LOT lately. Walking 10K or riding my bike 30 miles. The more I work out, the less I can sleep.
At this point the only thing I can think of to do is cut out all caffeine but, to be honest, I've spent so much time cutting things out that I expect such deprivation will result in a massive resentment and backlash.

I just want to sleep.

Sounds like you increased your exercise a bunch all at once. That can sometimes cause insomnia, as you are putting new demands and stresses on your body that it is not used to.

Try backing off on the exercise and then increase it gradually over a period of weeks. Let your body adapt. That might help.

When are you doing all the exercise relative to bedtime?

And when's the last cup of your caffeinated beverage of choice relative to bedtime?

All exercise was completed before 6:30PM. The more intense bike rides occur before 2PM. No coffee after noon.

Perhaps it's the increase in exercise. I hope so. I really need to get back to sleep.

Even if all exercise was completed before 6:30pm, could it be that you're still doing too much to the point that it is effecting your blood sugar? Maybe if you wake up prematurely, you might want to do a glucose check just to see if that is an issue or not and possibly correct the situation with a small snack before bedtime?

Good luck in sorting things out as it sounds like you are dealing with a very frustrating situation.
