side sleeper

Post by nursejane72 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 1:18 pm

I have been a cpap user for several months now. I am getting terrible sleep and the reason is I am a side sleeper. My nose pillows works ok, but the Swift headgear is just toooo much...it IS minimal, but the junction of straps etc is right on my cheeks, and it's just not condusive to sleep, with all that stuff on your face while your cheek is on the bed pillow. Any fellow side sleepers out there..I would love to know what you use and if it bothers you.
Thank you so much ~

Running late so a quick reply... do a search for the Airfit P10 on the forum. Great little mask. I'm a side sleeper too.

The place where the backstrap is hooked into the silicone strap hits me right in the temple. And when I was a newbie that was very painful to sleep on (I'm also a side sleeper). The solution that worked for me was to have our very own Padacheek make a custom made mask pad for the Swift FX silicone strap that covers the whole silicone strap and that covers that area where the back strap comes into the silicone strap. I liked the first one so well that I ordered a second one from Padacheek. I'm still using both of them after 3 1/2 years of nightly wear.

Another potential idea that might work for you is the Bella Loops headgear for the FX nasal pillows. They loop over your ears. So yes, there are still straps on your cheek, but they don't go over your temples or head. However, if your earlobes are attached, like mine are, the Bella Loops can cause some earlobe pain. I have to restrict wearing by Bella Loops to the hot summer nights when my hair wants to float free on my pillow. I can typically tolerate about 2 or 3 nights in a row of the Bella Loops.

Another potential idea that might work for you is the TAP PAP Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Improved Stability Mouthpiece that Pugsy uses. This mask has no headgear at all---it uses a mouthpiece to stabilize the mask and hold the pillows against your nostril. Unfortunately I have to wear a custom made TMJ guard at night, and that prevents me from trying the TAP PAP nasal pillows.

I too sleep on my side ... sometimes on my belly!

I use a huge FFM!

I too use the airfit and sleep on my side. It is comfortable on the cheeks and stays in place well. Sometimes I find myself on my stomach, and it works in that position too. The head gear is soft, and the adjustable by how far apart or close together you place the straps of the head gear. I have a small head and have no trouble with the fit.

I would stay away from the Nuance pro; I used that before the airfit. It wasn't comfortable on my cheeks, and it has a very strong, cold exhaust flow.

I sleep on my side. I think my nose pillow works ok. It has only one thin strap. Be sure you have a great pillow...I guess I listed only the full face that I never use. I have the simple Nose pillow one...

I have a full face mask--the Quattro Air for Her, and I have no problem sleeping on either side. But I do use a Sleep Number (Select Comfort) contour pillow. I kind of sleep on the edge of the pillow.

I have a tempurpedic pillow with neck "rolls" on the long edges and a "ditch" in the middle. I lie on my side with the edges of the mask in that ditch. This works with a bulky Mirage Quattro mask, quite well as there's little or no pressure against the mask since it's in that depression.

I am strictly a side sleeper and use the Aloha Nasal pillows as well as the Tap Pap. The tap has NO headgear and it's great for side sleeping! Take a look at it. Hope this helps,
