I now went through all 21 days and found another day with problems:

Total hours used : 7:06
Apnea Index:10.5, Obstructive 8.3, Central 2.1 , Unknown:0.1,
Hopopea Index : 0.7

19 days have an Apnea Index between 2 and 6

Of those 19 days, how many have an AHI> 5.0?

Yep, the DMEs think about profit.

But a lot, if not most Sleep Doctors, think that NO one should have an Auto.
They just don't believe in them!

My Sleep Doctor (actually a Nurse Practitioner) along with the 2 Sleep Doctors generally do not prescribe an Auto. Plus, they are die hard Respironics fans.

But, I was successful in convincing her that she should prescribe an Auto for me because:

I was losing weight and intended to lose more weight and my pressure requirements would fluctuate. And, in my case, my weight had actually gone down a few pounds from my previous visit to them at least 3 years prior.
But, I had no problem in making it sound much better than it really was.
Sometimes, you just have to stroke their ego (i.e. pacify them).

"I" wanted an Auto!

Did I mention "I" wanted an Auto!?
This did not take much convincing for me because that group has been my Sleep Doctor from my initial and only Sleep Study 17 years ago.
Over that time, I have impressed upon them the fact that "I" am very involved in my own therapy and that my views and wants must be considered.

Once I had convinced her that an Auto was in my future, it was a small step to add: "By the way, I would prefer the ResMed S9 AutoSet".

Then she asks me: "Based on your current single pressure, what range would you like me to specify on the RX"?

That was 2 years ago.
I have since learned of at least 3 others who have also gotten S9 AutoSet RXs from them. And, if I personally know of 3, I suspect there are a lot more.

But, if someone who is not assertive goes in to them even today, they WILL get a Respironics BRICK (Compliance data only - NO useful data for the patient).

6 of the 19 were over 5.00 . Plus the 2 nights with higher reading
Last night the AHI was 6.2 and AI 6.1
Here is a screenshot of the Events:

say with an auto titrating machine , a person sleeps fine at a pressure of 7 , then the machine gently ramps up to overcome an obstruction but needs a pressure of 9 to push the tongue away from the back of the throat

how does the machine know when its time to ramp down to a lower pressure ? or do they just hover at the higher pressure till we wake up the next day

The screenshot posted above is "zoomable" - one can click on it to enlarge it.

The breakdown for that particular night was:
total hours:8:08 , AHI 6.1 ,Obstructive 2.5, Central 3.4, Unknown 0.1, Hopopnea 0.1.

On the graph I see quite a few Obstructives

It is about halph the nights with AHI above 5

Any business that did not think about profit will not be in business for long. The problem is when they think about profit to the detriment of the patient

Once the the events that triggered the pressure increase stop and machine is happy with the status of our breathing it will gently start lowering the pressure back towards the min pressure setting. If more events occur, then the machine will again increase the pressure back up. The cycle repeats all night long.

Hi. Im new in this. I start with the S9 Sacape ansd change it to Elite. I thought is was a auto pressure. I just realize is not. My question is, how do i know i need less presure or more pressure in the future? I know. My doctor. But just for looking at the results in the elite? My first night using it, my AHI was 0.8

Hello, guest!! If you have not already done so, could you start a new thread so that more people see it and will help you? This topic thread is from a year ago.
