MY FIRST WEEK ON CPAP.

Post by eperryman » Sat Mar 22, 2014 8:33 am

I have mild sleep apnea and have a AUTO cpap. My first week has been interesting. The first 4 night's were good. I got 7 to 8 hours of sleep only waking once each night and feeling a little Beyer. My last three nights I have woken multiple tines threw the night and having very vivid strange dreams. Like dreams like car accidents with kids getting decapitated. WTF! One time I woke up with my hose wrapped around my neck from tossing and turning so much and the dreams are just freaky. The last three nights I've sleptfor 6 hours not feeling as refreshed but not as bad as before either. My multiplex awakenings and these freaky dreams are concerning. Thoughts?

Fix yourself some sort of hose management system..can be DIY or store bought with lots to choose from.
Sounds like you are trying to strangle yourself with the hose..might be the cause of the bad dreams. You know they say that we remember them because we wake up in the middle or right at the end of the dream..that otherwise we dream and don't remember. So something is causing the wake up and being strangled or just fighting with the hose can do it.
Lots of ideas for hose management here.

Also check the data your machine gathers using software. Let's make sure that you aren't having a few clusters of events which might cause the strangle weird dreams. Clusters can be significant even if the overall AHI is quite decent.
In REM sleep OSA can be worse. We can dream in any stage of sleep but of course REM sees the most of it. If you are having little clusters of events in REM sleep and not anywhere else the apnea event stress put on the body could manifest itself as a bad dream. My OSA is 5 times worse in REM sleep and sometimes in REM sleep I would see clusters of events...when that happens it's usually just a little tweak of the minimum pressure needed to break up the clusters.

Thank you! My AHI for the 7 day average is 3. In three weeks they are going to set my pressure to whatever the three week average is. Which right now is 8

Check your data using the software...AHI of 3 average could mean that you don't have any events at all for 6 of say 7 hours of sleep..and have all 21 of them occur in a cluster within 1 hour.
Not saying that is what is going on here but worth looking at the software report and not just relying on the machine's onscreen averages.
Information on the software available and examples of what you can see is in my signature line.

I agree with Pugsy. I have been getting AHI around 5-8 but its all at once when my brain tries to enter REM (or so I am guessing)
