Stomach Sleeper masks
Stomach Sleeper masks
I have been trying to find the right mask for a while now, the common journey among us all.
I usually end up asleep on my stomach and it makes wearing any mask difficult, even with a cpap pillow. I also mouth breath and as much as I keep trying to train myself not to I still do no matter what.
It seems like every mask I try works for a little bit then I will start ripping it off at night. I've been using the Hybrid and like the fit but I keep finding it on the floor. I've tried a Swift FX, Airfit 10, Quattro FX, and a couple others.
Have thought about trying to Sleepweaver full face but it has mixed reviews online. I've also wondered if I should try to train myself to sleep on my back even though I know it makes sleep apnea generally worse.
Any recommendations that have worked for someone with similar issues?

Re: Stomach Sleeper masks
I hear through the grape vine that there is a newer "improved" model to the SleepWeaver full face mask in the works.
Might want to wait just a bit to see if it gets released anytime soon....I think it is being Beta tested now.
Though you do know that all those masks come with a 30 day free return insurance when bought online like at cpap.com...if you got the original and it didn't work out you can return it and get a refund..they even supply a postage paid label for return.
To help prevent your subconscious brain from telling your hands to remove any mask at night you might add just a little tape over the straps on your cheeks so that the act of removing the mask causes a little discomfort and hopefully wakes you up so you can stop the unwanted behavior.
Sleeping position....I always maintain that a person should sleep in the position they are most comfortable with and if that is sleeping on their back..then sleep on their back and let the machine do what it is designed to do..prevent the apneas from ever materializing in the first place.
When someone talks about retraining themselves to another position I just don't see having to go through all that if it is an effort or a problem.
Getting the sleep is number one goal and if it is uncomfortable and causes loss of sleep when trying to alter sleep position habit then I wouldn't do it if it were me.
I guess it comes down to which is less of a problem...mask or sleep position.

Re: Stomach Sleeper masks
I was a stomach sleeper too before PAP therapy. This has been a battle for me too. I've had to become accustomed to sleeping on my sides, which I don't like one bit, it makes my shoulders hurt.
I've had some success sleeping on my stomach with my face "hanging" off the side of the pillow, and another pillow under my shoulder and torso. This way I'm kind of tilted but still in a stomach sleeping position. It lifts my face and body off the bed a little so that the mask doesn't get pushed around by the mattress and pillow. I use a Swift FX. The only problem with this now seems to be the moisure from the humidifier seems to liquify any nasal congestion and it flows forward and plugs me up rather than go out the back.

Very interesting read about the Falcon position. I will give it a try, can't hurt.
Thanks for the heads up on the new Sleepweaver Pugsy, I'll keep an eye out and wait for it to come out.

Re: Stomach Sleeper masks
I use the Sleepweaver Advance which just covers my nose. It has stayed on no matter what position. You Tube has videos by Lanky Lefty 72 for all three Sleepweaver masks and all are recommended for stomach sleepers. I sleep all 4 "'positions and never registered a large leak on machine or software.
Re: Stomach Sleeper masks
Does it have to be full face? My Activa Lt stays like it's glued on.

Re: Stomach Sleeper masks
This is the position my hubby sleeps in! He is still trying different masks, to find that 'right' mask, but he has not even tried to alter his sleeping position since he started CPAP. He or I neither one thought he needed to. He has tried the SleepWeaver Anew & didn't have any success with that, too many leaks. He is hoping a new version of that may help with the leaks. Right now he is using the Quattro Air, but is waiting on the new mask he ordered, the Full Life by Philips Respironics, similar to the Quattro FX, but he liked the image on the forum hosts site, so is trying that one. I think he will find a mask to minimize leaks, if not he will probably return to the Amara, his first mask.ChicagoGranny wrote:Check this out and let me know what you think - http://www.uarsrelief.com/sleeppositions.htmlDouble A wrote:I have been trying to find the right mask for a while now, the common journey among us all.
