Hi. I did a three night home study over the weekend and the results came in today: 87.5 events per hour. This is apparently not good.
So, I'm scheduled for a titration study in the sleep lab tomorrow night because the lab couldn't fit me in tonight.
While I'm still wishing I didn't have to do this, i suppose it's necessary. As the doctor said, "I can't guarantee the total results, but I can guarantee this will make a major change in your life."
The home study test results are in...

Wow I sure hope you follow up. 87 is incredibly high number. Best of luck!

At AHI 87?
So roughly every 41 seconds you are having an apnea lasting at least 10 seconds.
That's of course if they are evenly spread. You might be going stretches of 10 whole minutes and then having even more per minute during other times. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

I like your doctor - a good balance of realism and optimism.TNT wrote: As the doctor said, "I can't guarantee the total results, but I can guarantee this will make a major change in your life."

Wow, you are lucky to have this diagnosed, and the treatment WILL make a difference in your life.
I had to do all these things in very annoying group settings. One person volunteered to have her PSG graph used as the class example. Blue lines indicated periods of apnea, white lines indicated no apnea. Her example showed a white graph with a few clusters of blue lines. Another person in the group had a few more clusters of blue lines, mostly white though.
I didn't show mine to the class. It was almost solid blue, with a few very thin white lines. Very few. And my AHI was lower than yours. There's no way you won't feel better with properly treated apnea.
Now, that "properly treated" is a bit of an oxymoron. Getting to a place of optimal treatment with the right equipment, the right conditions, and getting used to it all may take time and effort. But so worth it.

Re: The home study test results are in...
Thanks for all the support and advice. I have been reading all I can... I had no idea sleep apnea could cause so much trouble. Other doctors have mentioned over the years that I might someday maybe want to check into a sleep study, but my current doctor is the one who said, "this is where we need to start."
So, anyhow, I'm ready to get started with this. I'm glad there's a forum here to help me out.
