2nd Night With ASV - Better
After all the education I got here yesterday about my new ASV machine (ResMed S9 VPAP Adapt), its settings, and my titration numbers, and how it all fits together, I had a much better night last night. My original post - viewtopic/t95960/1st-Night-With-ASV--Fail-Advice.html - has all the information about how terrible my 1st night was compared to the night of the sleep study.
I was actually able to sleep through the night (if you call 1:00 am to 7:00 am "through the night") with a full-face mask (Mirage Quattro) last night - only the 2nd time I've ever been able to do that, the 1st being the night of my ASV sleep study. I only got up because my wife was going somewhere with a few friends for the day and leaving early. I totally plan to nap at some point.
I also thin I was still swallowing air, though I was not conscious of it (a good thing in and of itself), because I was bloated and quite "gassy" when I got up.
But here are some details from last night.
I tweaked MIN EPAP down from 10 to 9, MIN PS from 5 to 4 (which is what I think it was supposed to be in the first place), and the ramp to 30 minutes. I think it was at 10 minutes, initially. I also changed the climate control from "auto" to "manual" and bumped both numbers at around 2.5 hours into it to a temp of 84 and humidity to 5.
The real first measure of success for me is that I slept and actually dreamt with a full-face mask. So that's a win in my book. But here are some of the data: I woke several times with leaks coming from the bottom right of my mask, and the SleepyHead data confirm there were leaks happening all through the night. Avg was 3.94 liters/minute.
My AHI was 6.9, mainly hypopneas - 37 hypopneas and 8 unspecified apnea evdents (not sure how to tell if those were obstructive or central).
EPAP average of 9.2. My "MIN and MAX EPAP" are set to 9 and 15.
IPAP average of 14.59, maxing out at 22.6.
I'm about to go back to sleep. I'll report back on how that goes.
Cheers!
Ken

Just a Note: The ASV will learn your breathing pattern so you may need to give yourself and the machine time to dail in.

Great news! Glad it went better on round 2. As you get used to the ASV, things should only get better from here Just posted a reply to some of your questions in the other thread if you want to check that out.
I've also noticed when using a FF mask that my hypopneas increase. It may just be the "nature of the beast". Unfortunately neither SH or ResScan will denote what type of apnea you had... they will remain "unspecified". But sometimes zooming in on the flow graphs, you can tell if they were obstructive based on your breathing flow after the event ended.

Re: 2nd Night With ASV - Better
To cut way down on the leaks I recommend getting a couple of Padacheeks FFM liners for you mask. I've used them for a couple or three years and they make a ton of difference in the seal of the mask. They act like a gasket and we all know how important gaskets are in the scheme of things in this old world. I know I'm helping you spend money but in my case all the things I've recommended have made a world of difference in my sleep.

I agree with JeffH about padacheek mask liners and she also has a leak strap that is very effective in controlling leaks which I have used.

I'm very interested in both of those things, especially since as I type this, my face is a bit sore from the tightness of the mask, which is due to the leaks I can't control. Can you elaborate on the leak strap? Is it something I can buy?
Thanks!
Ken

Thanks Pugsy for listing that for KenTheriot. When I got my leak strap it was a little long for me but my wife shortened it up and it worked like a charm, also her mask liners are great to use also.

Thanks!! Since mask discomfort and leaks were my 2 most pressing (ha!) issues last night, I have already ordered padacheeks and a seal strap:). They sound like exactly what I need.
Thanks again!
