Proper use of Lansinoh to control leaks with Nasal Pillows

On different posts I have read that people apply the Lansinoh to control leaks from Nasal Pillows either inside the nose, outside the nose, or on the pillows themselves.

Without having to start yet another poll, is there a consensus as to where the Lansinoh should be placed (for controlling Nasal Pillows leaks only)?

And, what is the most cited reason why Nasal Pillows leak?
Since the Nasal Pillows masks come with 3 sizes of pillows to try, I would assume that using the wrong sized pillows would not be the top reason?

Use just a very small dab, wipe it just on the outside of your nares and just swipe it on the edge of the inside. After about 5 minutes it is sticky enough to keep your pillows from leaking. People do not do a proper fitting with pillows sometimes, I suggest you put you pillows on standing in front of a mirror, once the pillows are in place tilt your head back and look up at your nares and see if everything is covered by the pillows..... you are sorta looking backwards up the inside of the pillows at your nares.(make sense?) Never have them so tight that they hurt the inside or give you piggy nose .

I brought it for a slight tenderness on my nostrils in the mornings when I wake up. Nothing major but thought what the heck let's see what it does. I have only a few minor leaks if I roll over on my face and moved head down, I seem to sense the leak and lift my head without waking, so didn't start using it as a leak preventative. I have found though that it has prevented leaks even when I roll on my face.

I've found a "dab" to be way too much. I just rub my thumbtip around the top of the tube, then press the thumb against each nostril, with a small twist. That's all it takes. You just want it tacky. Too much and the pillow can slide out of place.

Nipple grease tends to migrate during the night. If you find the top side of your nose or your upper lip to be greasy in the morning, you are probably using too much.

OK, I have never heard of this product Lansinoh. Is it safe to use on the nose? I have a Mirage Liberty but I have experienced lots of leaks when using it, even tried the rubber band around the pillows, that helped some. I would like to use it all the time vs my Mirage Quattro, with that said...inquiring minds want to know...

Yes, it is lanolin. Sold to relieve chapped/sore nipples in nursing mothers. I sometimes call it "nipple grease" cause it's fun to say. It's also accurate.

We use it as a sealant, not a salve. The only side effect I know of is it makes you feel like a boob! But, seriously, some people are allergic to lanolin and/or wool.

It comes in purple/lavender tube. You'll find it in the baby section at Walmart. Seems expensive, but a tube will last a lifetime. I've been using it for over 5 yrs and still have 3/4 tube left.

Proper pillow size and adjustment is more important, of course, but nipple grease gives a better seal above that. I was able to loosen my straps a bit, so they don't leave marks anymore.

OK linkC, got to try it, I really want to use my pillow mask and I really want to feel like a "boob"
