Smart Start for a Series One REMstar?

Post by Wyowanderer » Fri Feb 14, 2014 3:03 pm

My ResMed S8 was set up for smart start- it would automatically start when you breathed into it, and would shut off after 6 seconds of flow with the mask off.
Can the Remstar be set up the same way?

Yes, those options are available just called something different.

In the clinical set up menu...
Auto On.....set to On
Auto Off....set to On

Will let the machine start up after it senses a couple of breaths and and turn off when it senses no more breathing but note that the auto off thing takes about a minute to turn off. Much longer than Resmed.

I find I have to block the anti-asphyxiation valve with my finger to get my PRS1 to turn on.

I guess we need to amend remarks. I keep forgetting about that little quirk with Auto On.

If someone is using a full face mask and the pressure used along with the force of your own breathing can't be accurately "sensed" by the machine then it may not turn itself on even with Auto On set to On.

BTW ResMed has a similar issue with the S9 and of all masks..nasal pillow masks...at pressures below 7 cm...sometimes it won't kick in. You would think with that issue the nasal pillow masks would be the last of the masks to have that happen but it can and is mentioned in the manual.

Excellent. Couldn't find it in the clinician's manual. Thanks for the help, all.
