getting O2 before CPAP

Post by lpaocean » Tue Feb 11, 2014 9:24 pm

Getting my new CPAP in a few days. Meanwhile I got a CMS 50D Plus and am getting my pre CPAP Oxy data. Quite amazing to see the low Oxy values I've been living with.
Will be great to see the change after I start.
Anyone else done this on their own?
I love working with data and this is great data.

When it was suggested that I may have sleep apnea I did the same thing. I picked up an oximeter to monitor myself and realized that I did have some desaturations during the night. I wore my oximeter during my sleep study so I could correlate my data to the sleep study data. Since I didn't experience symptoms prior to using xPAP I use the oximeter to compare before and after xPAP use and see quite a difference.

spikes down to 70 a few times a night and mid 80's average. daytime I run 95+

Trying the alarm each night set at 70,the 75 then 80 just for curiosity.

Hope to have CPAP soon.

I'm using the spO2 software that came with the CMS50D+. Kind of clunky but works.

Tried the Sleepyhead but found it a work in progress also.

Would like to see some decent software.

Even with my cpap I sometimes get as low as 85 if I don't have the O2 turned on.
Any idea when you will get your cpap ?

I think the pulseox is a critical diagnostic tool for apnea. That's how I discovered just how bad my apnea was.
I worked as a sysadmin for a large dental group. I always knew I snored pretty bad. I was also having trouble
staying awake in the afternoon, and almost falling asleep at the wheel etc. One of the dentists was starting to
treat snoring with a dental appliance and had purchased a pulseox for diagnosis. So I took it home one night
just to see what was happening with me. OMG I desaturated to down in the 70s many times that night. The doc
thought the unit was faulty. I took it home again with the same results. He checked it out on himself and it seemed
fine. I got an appliance made that stopped the snoring, but only marginally helped the O2 levels.
I started reading on the net, and set myself up with CPAP and solved my problem.

Will get my CPAP after Dr reads overnight results. Days or weeks. Meanwhile I'll play with software.
