Problem with ComfortLite 2 Simple Cushion coming OFF

Post by Offerocker » Mon Jun 26, 2006 3:03 pm

This doesn't happen often, but when it does.........very frustrating!

The Simple Cushion on my ComfortLite 2 will come off during the night at times! I've tried 'resetting' it, to make sure it's in all the way, but there really doesn't seem to be a 'snap' spot, you know that feeling when you know for sure it's in the right place. I put it on as far as it will go.

I can only think that either it is defective or I've had one heck of a restless night!

Has anyone else had similar problem?

I will attempt to tape or glue it (water-solubule) meanwhile. Since I don't need to remove it at that junction for cleaning, it's not as if I've worn anything down or stretched it. Again, a periodic problem, but exasperating.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't had that problem, but I see what you mean about no "snap spot". Like you, I just pushed it on as far as it will go. Yeah, I'd just glue it on if it seems to come off too easily for you. Or..... place a homemade strap over it, going around your head? Hmm, maybe that's why it hasn't come off mine.

I use a piece of wide elastic with one layer wrapped entirely around the elbow above the vents then around the back of my head and tied on the side. I have a second piece from the extra headgear contacts (use the bottom two for the headgear so this is on the top set) around my chin somewhat looser. Even if the headgear slips the simple cushion stays pretty well sealed for me.

I'm not too sure if you are talking about the cushion coming off the elbow or the elbow with the cushion on it is coming off the down-tube. If the problem is the latter, I had that happen to me and it turned out the little "hook" in the twist-on slot on the elbow had broken off, allowing it to twist too easily and, therefore, not staying in place.

FYI: My DME called me today to see how things were going and asked how I was doing with the mask. I told her I had switched to the simple cushion and she said they need to be replaced every two - three weeks because they " breakdown and don't seal as well." Don't know how true this is or if they just needed to "sell" me something!! but thought I'd pass on this bit of information.

Offerocker---don't forget that you can always call Respironics Customer Service and ask them or tell them your concerns. Note that most issues like the one you describe are typically remedied by altering they way you adjust the mask via its adjustment points (the screw-type up and down adjustment as well as the angle adjustment points)

Hope you find a better fit!

Thanks for that recommendation. Yes, I did think of calling, and just may do that, although last night was 'OK' - I noticed that I hadn't moved much during the night either, so no real test. I have it adjusted to the closest setting on the angled adjustment. It fits well, but doesn't always stay on. I tried strapping it for awhile, but that just caused other problems. I DID have an episode of the twist-on/off part coming apart, then just taped it - later replaced that part.
I am very spoiled by this mask! It is the best yet; just need to 'refine'; will find out what mfgr has to say also.
